Stock antenna

After a 400 mile trip up north (calif). I was tired and it was dark. I was paying attention to the height of the roof when parking on the carport (supporting beam was low), but didn't realize the antenna was higher . I heard a scratch and thought I ran over something. Just a rant of why they still make those ancient antenna.

 

I would imagine reception. I replaced mine with one I got at Autozone. I think it's a 15", not sure.

I wouldn't say ancient. It's a quarter-wave whip tuned to the FM broadcast band, and it is the very concept of radio. Low profile antennas can never compete. Sure, with them you will get reception in town... but as soon as you drive to the sticks, your going to have noise.

One of these days I'm going to buy a low profile antenna and make a comparison test video.

 

You might have a point about the warning..

 

Get a shorter antenna. There are many nicer looking options that still maintain reception

 

If you use satellite radio it shouldn't hurt to get a stub

 

I have a dent in my roof so that's kinda over for me hahah.

 

Any tips in replacing the antenna, mine broke off at the car wash and I am having a hard time of figuring out how to replace it

 

I cut about 8" off of mine and stuck the "ball" back on top with no ill effects. Looks much better too and didn't cost me a dime.
