Moog LCA ball joint, tie rod, and wheel bearing replacement part #'s and general BS

If you want to get this done correctly doing yourself is the only way.
Anywhere you go they going to just toss any bearings in it which means your setup will most likely last shorter then factory.
Bearings need to be pressed on the hub exactly the right way, also they need grease repacking. Seals nees to be pressed correctly and greased. There are tons of time consuming things that needs to be done. Most shops won't do them because they would have to charge $2000 per side.

 

Well...

Summit here has Auto Extra brand hub assemblies/bearings for like 50 each

Autozone has their own Duralast assemblies for 75 each (then money back for the rewards card).

Or I could go moog from Rock auto.

Anyone have any suggestions?

 

ANy tips on installing the moog dust cover on their ball joints???

 

Why has no one replaces solely the bearings? vs the whole bearing module assembly.

Ah... shoulda just bought bearings then... oh well... next time. Or maybe I'll save the old ones and get fresh bearings for them.

 

Has anyone sorted out a method to install grease fittings?

I don't have a 4wd, but do have a prerunner. An earlier photo showed a prerunner hub, which had a plug installed on the outboard end.

Couldn't this plug on the prerunner be setup with a grease fitting or the rear bearing cap be fitted with a grease fitting and give an occasional shot of grease?

The two concerns I can possibly foresee is either blowing the seal out, or having the excess grease somehow work onto the brake disc.


Also, one thing about the pressing together and knowing when the bearings are seated, if the pin spanner nut is torqued to 203 ftlb. Isn't there some type of step or shoulder the bearings seat against by the flange? Otherwise the press fit is all that keeps the wheel from moving inboard with use.

If the bearings are under a 200 ftlb preload, how can they last at all. Most bearing are tightened then backed down to a reasonable preload.

Does anyone have photos of all the parts, in particular the prerunner, disassembled and showing the details of the parts.

From the photos here, it seems the prerunner doesn't even have an axle down through the hubs center.

Ive got around 140k on the truck. Trips to the desert havent been kind to the wheel bearings so Im doing some preventative maintenance and changing them out soon.
