Map & Compass 2 Day Course
Navigating with a map and compass is an essential skill that everyone should know. This course provides 2-days of intensive training to get you started. Know the basics before you rely souly on GPS. Course taught by former US Army instructors from various backgrounds in the Special Operations. Teaches Land Navigation skills using map and compass, UTM, Lat/long, and celestial navigation and coordinate systems. The classroom time will have plenty of hands-on map and compass exercises, broken up with field exercises. The second iteration will consist of successfully navigating around a designated course with map, compass, and grid coordinates provided by the instructors.

Topics:Reading topographic maps. Compass types and operations. Terrain features and association. Determining an azimuth and conversions. Plotting coordinates on a map. Establishing a solid pace count. Using and making of “Ranger Beads”Practical field exercise.

Objective: Understanding how to read a map, use it in conjunction with a compass, and successfully navigate through a navigation course.

Cool! What is the East Bay location?

 

Still working on the East Bay location. As soon as I have that locked down I will post a date. It will more than likely be at the end of the year. I recommend Camp Tamarancho, great course setup. We will have follow on classes to bring the 2day course to the next level, and that's what we might use the East Bay location for (this year).

 

June class is filling up. Still room in the September class. We are the only group out there doing full Land Nav courses. A plotted course using UTM 8digit grid coordinates. Navigating your way with a protractor, map, and a lensatic Military Cammenga or Suunto compass. Don't wait until the course is full.
