How fast can you get your tacoma?

How fast have u gotten your tacoma running at? if you have mods please specify. im planning on doing some performance upgrades soon, just wanna know my limits and possibilites. plus is it really serious on the spedometer about only 120 mph?? help a newbie out!

 

Eh, well actually I have never tried to top out my taco. I ride sport bikes, so I take my need for speed out on them.
My guess, is it is going to vary depending on the package. V6 vs I4, or 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive, in other words, lots of variables.
So, that said with my v6 4x4 access cab..........I would say......maybe 120 ish.

 

You might be insain for trying to do 120 in a puck up. JMO!

That high off the ground, at those speeds its really easy to get some wind lift
or even just loosen the back end grip and next thing you know, your a rolling end over end NASCAR wreck on the highway. Plus the arrow dynamics of a pick up is similar to that of a barn.

You wanna do 120+ safely, get a car, lower it, put a rear wing on it to keep the rear end planted, (even front wheel drive can have the rear end wash out) upgrade the breakes with SS lines, slotted adn cross drilled rotors and racing fluid and pads so you can stop, upgrade the suspension to make it tighter and to remove the float. Lower to the ground the better the arrow dynamics and the faster you can go. Think Indy cars and Fomula One racers. How many wrecks have you seen on TV where air has gotten under them and they took to the air.

Even better, take the lowered car to the track, Gingerman, Road America or such. You'll live longer.

 

To be honest, I have never tried to go much over 80.
What's the point with a 4x4 Truck?

 

I usually dont go over 80 but on one trip my friend has his valentine fuzz detector. I was running about 90 or 95 and crept up to between 105 and 110 at one point. to be honest it felt stable and didn't feel like the engine was struggling at all. However i agree with GT, if you wanna go fast get a car (no wings though, those are stupid, sorry GT.....) The beamer just had upgraded suspension and it took 115-120 with no problem and felt glued to the road. Never got it any faster than that

 

i took my 08 dc trd v6 to 110 and the governor stoped me but i still had plenty of pedal left. i was very surprised that the truck was still stable

 

I've been up to 170km/h (106mph) and it felt very stable and yes there was still lots of power left.

 

100mph the tires were so loud didnt want to go to much faster but i herd 110 is the limit

 

I have buried my 120 mph speedo a few times. But I think you guys have a rev limiter thats closer to 110 on the non X-Runner tacos.

 

4 Cylinder 2.7L Prerunner I got up to 109 about and the gov kicked im. I believe i was at 4th gear and 4200RPM. I have about 1600RPM left and another gear.
Yes, it was indeed very stable. I had even 3 people in the car and they were like how fast we going 109MPH. It's starts rattling around 90+ and loses it's quietness. but before it's all good =).

 

I have had my Triumph Speed Trip up to 145 (indicated), but thats the last time I will try that on public roads any time soon.
Too many hazards and the chance of getting caught make it a fools errand.

 

I've had mine up to 99 according to my scangauge. Too much traffic, hills, and curves to really push it more than that. Over on TN Tacogrande wheels his in Germany, then hits 120mph on the Autobahn on the way home. Which is really crazy cuz he has pics of his truck in the air and slamming back down fully stuffing the tires. (He also has the governor bypassed)

I think that's next... He's finishing up a rear bumper now.

 

My tach has never seen 4000 rpm, we are both very happy this way !
