Every time I turn the car on and shift into drive I get a strange sound coming from the front end...almost sound like some kind of metal clicking sound. Like something moving into place and stopping from the forward momentum. At first I thought it was the lose change moving around, but that did not turn out to be the case. If I drive around and put the car into park and then back into drive it does not happen. Only when I turn the truck off and then turn it back on will it happen. It is kind of annoying and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this could be?

If you can duplicate it, take it in under warranty.

Yea, that sounds wierd. Hopefully it is not a drive train issue.

    Keep us posted.

Just guessing here but could it be the ABS going through it's precheck?

Seems to me that this was the concensus in other discussions as well.My truck certainly does it all the time.I describe mine as a brief whir or my trucks stomach growling:D.....I can also feel it in the accelerator when it happens.

I get it too. It is like a clunk...clunk... sound. I am pretty sure it is normal. There have been a few threads about it before. If I am not mistaking, I think Janster explained what it was.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully it is something simple. I will be taking it in this week to get the blue logic installed so I will have them check it out when I bring it in.

I get the same sound when it is in drive and I am on the brakes I get that clunking sound. I've been thinking of taking it in.

Does this happen to you when you turn it on and leave it in park or turn it on and shift into drive?

My 2009 makes a noise when I first accelerate - either reverse or drive. I have been told it's either the fuel pump or the ABS running a check. I compared it to the sound airplanes make when sitting on the runway when they adjust their wing flaps. It's electric motor sound.

Other than that...I am not familiar with a 'clunk' sound. Definitely take it in and hope they can replicate it.

I have found on the no transfer shift some times you have to turn the truck off and restart the PCM will only send so many amps to the motors. This also works if 4X4 wont come out PCM default is 2X4.

Well I am at the dealer now and I was told this was normal...ABS precheck. Since when does clicking noises become something that is suppose to be normal. My '98 Taco never did anything like this. I have never owned a vehicle make any kind of noise when putting it in drive...I guess this still bothers me. New vehicles shouldn't be doing this.

It's hard to understand sounds on a forum, but fwiw, mine makes a pop, clunk pop when putting it into drive or out of drive into park.
