I have a rat problem.

I was out working in the shop Saturday when I heard this scratching sound. I looked up in the rafters and there were two HUGE rats, as in rats the size of squirrels. So I put out a couple of rat traps baited with cheese. So far, no success. I don't like the idea of poison since they'll go off and die somewhere and stink. I hate those glue traps because that just seems nasty and cruel. Anyhow, all thoughts appreciated.

seriously man....glue boards really do the trick. or.....use peanut butter instead of cheese on a rat trap.......that works good too. or....sit out there with a pellet gun and plink the hell outta them.

I had roof rats here and they are really smart avoiding getting caught in traps but this works every time
Take a piece of bacon and zap it for a few seconds in the microwave, then cut a piece about 1 1/2 inches long and fold it over and hook it really tight on that barb on the trap trigger, they love bacon and it hooks easily on the trigger so they trip it trying to pull it free

 

Use glue boards and if you still feel bad about them when they are alive, pour olive oil on the to free them! I still like the al gore way better

 

Guess what? I went out there after work and the little bastards had eaten the cheese off the trap and gotten away! So this time I put on some bacon and wired it on there. The "theory" is that they will have to tug to get the bacon off. Snapped my finger trying to set the trap too. I will keep you all updated on the progress.

 

Try Peanut butter as others have suggested. It really does work better.

 

Agree with peanut butter and the glue traps, BB or pellet gun, to bad I am not closer or I would come and POP some off........

Shoot the bastards or go get some feral cats, but then you will need to get rid of the cats

 

You've never seen the show Verminators..... it's a great show and you learn a lot from it.

First - you need to find out where they're coming in from. You need to block off any and all access. Cover up any/all holes where they could get in. Once you've done that - set up traps and give it a couple days. They'll probably avoid the traps until they are starving. That's when the traps will shine.

If you don't catch any - perhaps you were lucky enough to cover up the holes while the family was outside.

The T-Rex traps are really cool. We used them on a couple little mice we had in the basement.
