Anytime Foglight mod explained electrical (diagrams)

did you disconnect the neg battery cable before doing the mod? i remember someone else had blown a fuse when doing it hot causing an engiine light. Maybe try disconnecting the batt for 10-15 minutes, check ALL fuses, reconnect batt and see if it clears. If not, does it clear when you reverse the mod? Good luck, let us know..

 

hi, thanks for getting back to me, the check engine light was on with everything normal, except for one of the pins bent on the fog relay, and then I put it back to normal, and the check engine light went away. This morning, I tried bending one of the tabs on the fog relay to try the mod again, and no check engine light, so it seems ok for now!

Quick note.... When you pull the fuse out while the key is in any position other than OFF, this will trigger a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT upon completing the fog light modification. Turn the truck ON, then turn it OFF, then press the TIRE PRESSURE RESET SWITCH under the steering wheel three times, for about 1/2 second each time. START the truck - this will reset the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.... Hope this helps someone else....Worked for me. Was not fund having a truck with 300 miles on it have a CEL on....

So not to completely jack the thread but lets say you want to do the exact opposite and have the fogs cut off with the high beams? I bought some aftermarket fogs and after looking at the wiring it looks like they are independently wired from the lights so they will not turn off when you turn on the high beams. I live in VA and here it is unfortunately a requirement that they turn off with the high beams. Any insights would be great!

 

Cmatt.....thanks for running into this issue.....I attempted to do this mod yesterday but I tried doing it without bending the relay tab, it worked a couple times but then it didn't. Put everything back to normal and took off for work, noticed that my back up cam didn't work, and everything that you listed except for the check engine light. I read your post and checked all 10A fuses under the dash and found the IGN2 fuse blown, anyway I replaced that and everything works just fine again.

This will be my first mod to the new truck. Did it on the X and now the dclb

 

With 663 kms on my Taco its was about 662kms overdue for me to mess with something so I figured the easiest mod ever was a good pace to start. Turns out Master Yota made a mod of his own and shuffled around a relay or two. The fog relay is now in the sub panel mounted to the right side of the main panel.


This isn't such a bad thing as there is an easy way to get from one to the other with our little jumper. Just feed the lead down here



Then you can unclip the sub panel from the main and remove the bottom cover


Now if you wanna realy keep things stealthy at this point you would splice into that little red/black wire in the top right. I close the bent tab route as I just couldn't bring myself to start cutting wires. So feed the lead up thru the block, that it the skinny black one over the blue



Now you have to bend the tab carefully, we need a U shape bend as the space in the panel is very tight


Almost done! Clip the subpanel back together and onto the main, replace the relay and connect your lead



Now connect your jumper to the same place as always in the main panel



And there it is your done and your new 2012 Taco has fogs available anytime you like!

 

Try it this way, after posting this in a seperate thread cintocrunch showed the easiest way yet on a 2012. I totaly missed the switched lead right next to the relay

 

After cintocrunch showed me the ueasy way it occured to me this could be done even cleaner. The image below is the underside of the sub panel. If you were to swap the red/black wire in the upper right corner with the pale green wire in the lower right you would not need the jumper wire or to mess with the relay. Note if you have heated seat the this would be bad as now they would only work with the headlights on lowbeam

I took a look at this tonight and it seems there is a small clip holding the witing connector in the panel. If anyone know how to release the clipthis would be a super clean mod, heck it would even be fused as it is a factory wire

I did my 2012 Taco just like Johnny E., except I added a wire tie to the green wire that is being tapped into so it can help hold my tap in place. I'm a little paranoid of the tap popping out and shorting something out. The mod works great..

Ok, I have a 2012 DC LB 4X4 SR5, no seat heater. I looked under the little aux relay box, next to the main fuse/relay panel under the hood; there is only 1 relay... for the fog lights, but there is an empty relay socket wired, and the little lid says AIR PUMP HTR, anyone know what this is?
The red/black wire (lower right in first pic) for the fog relay has 12v power only when the lights are on, the blue wire with white tracer (above the green wires in first pic) has 12v power when the the key is set to ON and also when the engine is running, regardless of headlights off/low/high.... which is how I'd like to do my "anytime fog lights mod", I would swap these two wires. I just dont know what this empty spot is, which is labled AIR PUMP HTR; Will this always have power when the truck is ON? Is this a good 12v power lead to do my mod?

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Crooks, see post #133. IMO this is the cleanest way with the most options on how you want to run your lights. You can use the air pump heater socket (lower right slot), but it will turn on your fog lights after a few minutes of engine shutdown. You would have to remember to turn off your fog light switch when getting out of your Taco.

No way around it. You will have to run a wire to the main fuse/relay box. It can be done very stealthy. You can use the spot mentioned in post #133 or get power from the Trailer Towing relay. You must have your parking lights on to use the fog lights if you connect to the Trailer Towing relay. If you use the spot mentioned in post#133, you can run your fogs and the DTRL. This is not possible if you use Trailer Towing relay.

Both are excellent mods! It's all about preference.

 

Do you have any references to the air pump heater, and why does my truck NOT have this?

I have no references and no idea. My truck has the connections there too, but no relay either.

 

Score! Finally did this mod, i havent been on here in a long ass time tho.

It was really easy, seriously did it in like 5 min. Just like post#78 explains it.
