    The TRD is having a group buy for an unbeatable price, you might want to jump in on that.

    URD is cheaper, performance proven, but you will need to modify, and solder some wires...

    All the others are hear and there. Mostly depends on wether you offroad or not. Sound is your greatest gain. And then there is the Temp issue which equivaltes to a TCAI.

    My pic would be in this order;

    URD: if you dont offroad any..
    Volant: if you do both
    TRD or AFE: same IMO
    Stay stock: put a dryflow D/I filter and be done with it...

    Oh and here is mine (Volant)...

    Thanks... This set up to me; is basically the TRD with a scoop option. But It can be pricey... But what the hell, tax return was good to me this year...:D

    does that ram air on the volant really make a difference can u notice any difference with it on and with it off?

    Intake temps are alot closer if not even w/ambient temps. As far as HP ??? Throttle is alot happier with it on:D

    I heard today from a guy at 4 wheel parts that the ones that say "Offroad Use" are the best. That kinda makes sense too. Better flow when you got it floored tryin to get through that mud. lol

    1) which intakes are aproved for offroad use
    2) 4WP's is a good vendor but highly recommend not to take their advice on anything. When 1st building my rig they informed me that there is not much out there to improve performance on the 2nd Gen Taco... check mine and everyone's rig on this site and we can all call BS...:cool:
    3) you really gots to coach them when ordering anything...

    Yes I agree if you offroad, making sure you get an intake for offroading, that will be benefitting, ie closed set up like TRD, AFE, Volant, Stock...

    Most aftermarket intake companies advertise carb approval for states like Cali:D

    My intake ratings (1st to last):

    1/2 - TRD/aFe - Proper tubing size, excellent MAF setup, enclosed filter
    3 - Airaid for being CARB exempt and keeping the stock MAF location
    4 - K&N / Volant - Both have a few flaws that can be fixed with simple modding, and need to be tuned to run properly
    5 - URD - poor MAF placement, bad idea extending MAF sensor wires, exposed filter and MAF Sensor

    There really isn't such a thing as and "off-road use" intake. There are additional foam pre-filters that you can buy to go over some filters that take out the larger gross contaminants and are easier to clean but the main filters themselves are all the same. It is just a sales gimmick used on the uneducated.

    Wheeling is always a trade-off. If you keep the intake up inside the engine then you suck warmer air but at least you are less likely to hydro-lock an engine then if it draws from the front. Drawing from the wheelwell is somewhere in between.

    The TRD/aFe intake are much better designed the the XDI.

    They do make quality filters though.
