But getting punched in the face is justification to kill someone over?

If a cop shot an unarmed kid he would get in deep shit, but when a little bitch playing cop does its acceptable?

mgrande... you seem to keep moving the threshold for justifiably "fighting off a violent attack"... by zimmerman's account he was sucker punched in the nose, and found himself on the ground, trayvon on top of him slamming his head against the concrete (and this was corroborated by eyewitness), ...he was calling for help as well... so, if he was assualted, is getting beaten badly, ...unable to physically escape overcome, ...and possibly a struggle for retention of the gun, ...is this not a chaotic/violent situation?. it's nice we can armchair quarterback this... it's simply not as cut-n-dried as "guy shoots unarmed kid eating skittles"...

how do you know a cop wouldn't have done the same thing?... cops have found themselves in situation where use of deadly force is required against "kids"..., remember in cincinnati riots in 2000/2001... that was sparked by a cop who shot a "kid" being pursued into an alley, kid turned around and threatened to throw a brick at cop - cop fired gun, killing kid... sparked riots... good shoot, bad shoot??? IDK, ..i wasn't in the heat of the moment... you gotta get a grip on your emotions here,.. too many baited headlines, ..things are not always as they seem in their empirical form...

I agree that the fight could have been bad. But my point is that it never should have happened. And if a random guy came after me I would defend myself, just as trevon appears to have done.

mgrande, ..hindsight is always 20/20... shoulda/woulda/coulda... don't you think zimmeran is seriously second guessing everything that happened that day?... i'd tend to think so... none of us know what's going to happen 10 minutes from now, let alone around the next corner... this is perfect example of how your life can change in an instant... i recall a movie called "intersection", that demonstrated this very thing quite well.... to play devils advocate, ..what if trayvon had walked on the sidewalk, and not by the eaves of the townhomes?... two way street until someone assaults someone...

Unless I've missed something in this case (and I'll admit fact and fiction are pretty muddled at this point) we don't know that Zimmerman actually did just randomly go after Martin. It could have been the other way around.

Meanwhile, am I the only person who is annoyed that the media has been using Zimmerman's last name- which is less personal and is traditional in journalism because it lends a bit of impartiality- while calling Martin by his first name? The implication is "Trayvon" is sort of an Everyman's kid character. "Look what Zimmerman did to America's son!" Because we traditionally use first names when we are familiar with someone, there's an implied emotional connection. And then on top of that, as mentioned earlier, they pick these ridiculous photos: Martin looking like he's about 12 years old, happy-go-lucky innocent boy; and Zimmerman's picture taken while providing security at a party and therefore intentionally somewhat rough and puffed up. And we can't blame those darn liberals here; Fox has been doing the same thing.

Also re: Stand your ground law. From what I saw on the news tonight Zimmerman's lawyer is not pursuing that defense. He's planning to use a simple self defense argument.

Wow... some of these posts are intelligent and well thought out...

    Others come across as whiney...

For those of you that suspect you're being "whiney" I suggest taking emotion out of the case before posting... It makes you sound like a petulant child.

more on the NBC apology, ..plus recap of the piers morgan (CNN) vs. MSNBC contributor on-air meltdown...

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/trayvon-martin-case-leads-to-multiple-embarrassments-for-nbc-msnbc/

this quote from the (gasp) "MSNBC contributor" was particularly telling of an institutional refusal to give voice to both sides:

"You know, at NBC, in the hallways, we were laughing at you today,” Touré told Morgan. “We wouldn’t take [Robert Zimmerman]. Standards and Practices at NBC wouldn’t let him get through door. And you had him on the air and allowed the hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands or whatever number of people watch your show listen to what he had to say."

NBC...most of the media and many in positions of leadership (be civic like Sharpton, or legislative like many in the congress) have been despicable in this matter.

What is wrong with questioning someone walking/trespassing threw a gated community, waring a hoodie in 80 deg weather, that you have never seen before? In Afghanistan and Iraq those individuals usually lead to trouble. No different here in the states. If Martin would have obeyed the law in the first place he and George would have never met. If Martin acted civil and not attacked George when he was walking back to his truck then continue to attack him on the ground (attacking someone on the ground is a forcible felony and that alone justified deadly force per FL law long before stand your ground) he might still be alive.

I agree with you. However, once one person is on the ground, it's no longer self defense if the other person continues to hit them. That's what needs to be proven in court.

If Trevon knocked Zimmerman to the ground, called him a bitch and walked away, then that's not grounds for deadly force. If he knocked him to the ground and then started punching him in the head multiple times, then Zimmerman was entirely justified.

I suspect this is a sad tale of two swollen egos that met up in the wrong place at the wrong time.:(

I never saw any locals wearing hoodies, or americans planting ied's in the suburbs
The fact that he ended up the ground just means he's a bitch that started something he couldnt handle. We'll see how it turns out in court, but the kid most likely felt threatened and reacted the same way most would. But zim lost control of the situation (that never should have happened) and used his pistol to do what his hands were to weak to do.

almost sounds like you've got a personal beef against zimmerman... all this name-calling, when you havne't a clue what happened... we've already stated over and over, that trayvon may have jumped him.... what could zimmerman have done to justify trayvon doing such a thing... i find it hard as a marine who quotes thomas jefferson, that you are so quick to judge, let alone vilify someone who had a really really bad day,

...i'm sure you guys have been in situations where you've been unjustly deamonized for your actions??

Yep. If someone starts a fight and the other guy ends it, the other guy walks away and leaves the first guy on the ground. Winner, loser. That's how it's supposed to work. If the winner continues the beat down past that point, he is no longer a winner of a fight, he's a murderer. The guy who started the fight can now claim self defense. If we allow a man to beat another's skull in when they are laying on the ground, then we are allowing murder.

Tampa or Orlando VA will serve you better for the post tramadic stress disorder. Not TW World. You have battles you haven't overcome, and arguing here isn't getting you any further.
