I haven't really been around pitbulls that much, but I know from friends and what not, that they are great dogs, as long as they aren't encouraged to fight/attack. they are especially awesome when trained right.

Its really all about the owners. Asshole owners make asshole dogs, no matter the breed. We have two pitties and they are the most loving animals ever. Unfortunately thugs and wanna be thugs use these animals to boost their street presence and perpetuate the bad rap these animals have received thru little fault of their own.
I hope more people would be open minded about the breed. As when people ask about our dogs and we say pits, they are... ohhhh and are frightened. Its all misinformation sensationalized by the press and the web concerning their demeanor.

    pls forgive the rant

Just like any other dog it's all in how the owner has trained them. If the owner were to train him to fight and be mean then that's how the dog will be but if the owner raised the dog not to be that way then they are some of the best dog's to own. While they are naturally a more aggressive species of dog they still can be the nicest most loyal dogs you could ever ask for.

I have a friend that had 4 and one day while walking through the woods we heard a hog behind the tree line but couldn't tell where he was. He then broke the tree line at full speed straight toward us about 20 yards away, the pit's were already on his trail and taking him down there were 4 pits and only 2 survived saving us from possibly being killed or maimed by the hog. I had my glock and once I had a clear shot at the hog I took him out but the hog had speared and wounded the 3 out of 4 of them mortally wounding 2 of them and the 3rd got bit pretty bad in her hind leg but made a full recovery. The 2 that lived got a nice cut of loin meat for dinner the next day and we had a good dinner for a few weeks.

I have had pits on and off for the last 25 years, 5 total. My first one was not so tall but built like a brick shithouse. He got struck by a car and pretty much bounced off. He was wounded, nothing serious. The vet said it would have killed most any other dog.

    love those little buggers
