Where to mount a fire extinguisher?

I'm looking for suggestions on where to mount a fire extinguisher. 2010 4x4 access cab. Usually just me in the truck, sometimes the wife, very rarely do I have passengers in the back, but I'm getting a dog over the summer! I just picked up a 1A-10-BC 3lb unit. It's about a foot tall; it's kind of big, but if I ever need it, I'm sure i'll want it! It came with a super-cheesy plastic wall mount, but I had the same model in an old apartment kitchen and it stayed stuck to the wall with just two screws.

Doesn't matter so much *where* you mount it - just use a real mount and attach it solidly. You don't want that thing to become a missile in a car crash.

 

BTW, look down at the bottom of this thread to "similar thread" for other mounting location ideas...

 

I'm going to make a mount so I can clamp it into the bedrails...i'll take pics when I do. That way it will stay in one place and won't get buried in crap if I fill up the bed (mostly camping stuff)

BTW...I searched for "fire extinguisher" and got tons of crap...not the useful stuff I found in the "similar thread" thing. Any links to good ways to use the search function?

Careful leaving it mounted outside the cab. Somebody told me that their bed-mounted extinguisher got yanked and emptied all around (or over?) the truck once. I think it may have been Mohawk Mike.

IF you don't mind spending a little extra time, you might think about something like this:

 

I have mine mounted in the bed to the bed rails, I used the quickfist mounts.

Defined has some mounts that can adapted to work there pretty easily. You might look into those:

I put one in the little cubby in the bed of the truck. That way it is easy to get to but not visible to jack asses.

 

Looking into mounting one in my bed, What grade (ABCE?)is best for vehicle fires?

Just make sure it is a good solid mount.
I had a friend that let his roll around in the back of his SUV, the thing discharged on him.

 

Opinions vary but a 5lb 3a:40bc dry chemical is a decent and affordable choice.

Oh, cool! I hoped to mount it with a rubber quickfist or two but i'll get one with a bracket just incase the quickfist warrants too much movement...
