    I live at approximately 6000' and go higher on a routine basis. Would aFe's whole stage 2 cold air intake be worth it for sheer flow volume (if not cold air)?     I know about the secondary filter mod, but don't want to do it 'til a few years after it's all paid off. Not that I'm complaining! Altitude limits all vehicles here, and this a prowly little reg cab, 4x4, manual mountain lion!

    The stock intake isn't your limiting factor, it easily flows more than your 2.7L can ingest, nothing short of a supercharger or turbo is going to make up for the 15+% reduction in power you will see at 6000 ft.

    The surface area of the 2.7L filter is greater than for the 4L, it isn't a big restriction and removing the secondary filter won't help either.

    A theoretical 137% increase in flow rate is nothing but a bogus comparison of maximum flow rate way above what your 2.7L can pull at max rpm. Totally irrelevant to the air your engine can use.

    actually, removing the secondary filter will help alot. especially when combined with a drop in permanent filter replacement.

    And I've done it. It makes a difference over stock. Throttle response is much better, slightly better power etc. Im not the only one to report this.

    It's a free mod, so of course it's not going to have drastic improvements over base, but a CAI doesn't either especially for this motor.

    I have searched and found nothing but butt dynos and the unmeasurable "throttle response".

    You went from "alot" to "slightly" pretty fast.

    Ill be honest here and say that I have installed just about every NA mod that you can onto my truck. My truck is still incredibly underpowered at this elevation. I wont do anything more to the performance aspect of my truck until I get enough money together for a S/C... I would save your pennies for something that's gonna actually help. Just my .02

    I wasn't very clear in my earlier post.
    Remove both the secondary filter and the intake silencer. Do not worry about any negative performance issues. I live at 5000 ft and have had no issues. The 2.7 is only 159 hp at sea level but this will help.

    A SC is a bit out of my price range for now. Is the intake muffler the resonator referred to in that thread up yonder?
