If you're not hauling anything in your box, then it looks like you should have more pressure in your front tires. Initially, I put 29 PSI in the front tires and 32 PSI in the rear. The sensors didn't approve, I got a low tire pressure indicator on the dash, so I bumped the front pressure to 35 PSI and left the rear at 32 PSI. This made the sensors happy.
I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to find out how much weight the Tacoma is at the front and rear unloaded but for the driver. It looks like the front tires are taking more weight than the rear. Anyone got any info on that???

Makes perfect sense. Just remember to put more air back in the rear when you load'er up again though.

You know you can reset the sensors to whatever pressure you like from inside the cab , no ?

Peter, how do you go about resetting the tire pressure sensors? Any info would be appreciated. I've got the Haynes Manual for 2005 to 2009 Tacomas but I don't see anything about resetting the sensors.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Do you have your Tacoma manual ? There is a section in there on it .

There is a " Set " button on the steering column near the bottom .

Set your pressures , turn the truck on to ACC , hold the set button for 5 seconds or so , the low tire light should blink , wait for approx 10 seconds , turn the truck off

The write up in the Tacoma manual is more descriptive , but essentially that's all there is to it

think the front weighs around 2k~ lbs...my 1500lb jack couldn't lift it beyond the suspension travel

Check to see how your tires are wearing to determine if they are under- or over-inflated. However, unloaded pickups are notoriously light in the rear so your idea of running more pressure in the front tires than the back ones (unless loaded) is probably a sound one.

If you look in your door jam - there are tire pressure recommendations listed there. If overall weight from front-to-back mattered - then Toyota would recommend different pressures to reflect that.

Your tire pressure sensors are not going trip the dash light with only a few lbs of pressure difference. In my experiences- the dash light goes on with 10-15lbs variance. Twice mine went off for my spare tire and once for a nail in one of my tires. Sounds like your TPMS system isn't set properly if its going off between 3lbs of pressure.

The only issue with having the box loaded - is the nose of the truck points upward (so to speak) and this reduces steering and braking effectiveness because lack of weight. It has nothing to do with tire pressure.

I always run about 32 up front and 30 in the rear when the bed In unloaded... Which is most of the time. Helps with ride quality too. Plus, here in az, it gets hot so that pressure will increase in summer.

    stock, for now
Its easier to just run them all the same psi, espically if you do haul stuff occasionally. You dont have to adjust psi each time..right now I run 35 all the way around, i do haul a 5x8 every saturday morning to do some sidework landscaping..mulch and the sort goes in the bed.

My tire light has been on since day one. I've fucked with the pressures, I've monkeyed with the reset switch. Currently, I'm just waiting for the light to burn out for good. Damn LEDs...

Sure did. Now I've got the Konigs on the other 4 are like 100-200kms far far away from me. I'd probably feel weird without the light on now to tell you the truth.

LOL. My TPMS sensors were sold with the OEM rims so I have none. The light don't bother me except when it blinks when first starting the truck. After it stays constant I don't mind it. It'll probably burn out in 17 years...

I thought about taking the dash apart to rip off the LED but a small square of electrical tape would do the same thing and much less effort :)

Off-roaders should be varying their pressure all of the time depending on the terrain. It would be nice if Tacos had a system like the old WWII Army Ducks that allowed one to pressurize the tires differently for different surfaces while on the go.
