Hauling 1 yard of mulch

Anyone tried hauling a yard of mulch in their Taco? I'm not sure how much that weighs. I guess my truck can handle it, but wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. Everything is stock.

 

Mulch isn't heavy (especially if it is dry). I hauled mulch in my Rangers dozens of times with zero problems.

EDIT: Your short bed might be a tight fit for a whole yard.

 

I had on my 94 taco 6' bed and could easily take on a yard........now my 5' bed cannot hold a true yard of mulch so depending on what you have be aware. Driving though....never an issue....just make sure its not to dry and your not driving 90 on the freeway........

 

Do you have a bed extender? I use my bed extender and lay a tarp down so it drapes over the bed extender and sides of bed. Hopefully the guy driving the front loader will dump it in nice and easy. Cover with another tarp and your good to go. If you don't have a bed extender the short bed will be pretty tight for the full yard.

 

I've done it several times with no problems. Not to mention if my Taco can handle five loads of rocks, mulch is a piece of cake.

 

I usually get a yard in the bed, and put 2-3 yards on a trailer, and I hardly notice anything is there, and its usually never dry. Mulch is light but bulky.

 

Thanks guys! I do not have a bed extender so I may get shorted a bit on a whole yard, but I'm ok with that as long as my suspension isn't bottomed out. I will be driving about 15 miles, but speed limit will only be 45mph.

 

Weight won't be a problem, but I'd only pay for 1/2 - 3/4 of a yard as any more will be over the edges and/or "contributed" to the roadside.

 

I've had 35 bags of mulch in my shortbed which is the equivalent to about 2.5 yards so the weight is no problem. The issue you'll run into with bulk mulch is containing it.

 

I've put 3 buckets (1 1/2 yards) in the back ... sat a bit low but I only went 1 mile.

 

I've done 2 cubic yards of mulch in my bed. The ass sagged a little as expected but I didn't have any issues driving it the ten miles back home. Just took a little more throttle and braking to get there.

 

i have had my whole 6 foot bed filled with mulch, was almost inline with the top of the truck. the back squatted down about 1.5 inches, 4 leaf pack here.

 

Don't put a yard of dirt in it my wife came home years ago with a little over yard of dirt in our old 94 I'm not real sure how she steered it.

 

A little difference in weight between the two. I went to get a yard of compost/dirt and the dude looked at me and said, "Let's try 1/2 1st."

Good advice given ... and I took it.

 

Big difference between mulch, topsoil, and 50/50. 1 scoop of topsoil put me down to the stops, but 1.5+ of 50/50 (topsoil/potting soil) gets me there. I hate loading her down like this, but 6 miles to the house with 4 turns. I also make sure I get that weight out as soon as possible.

Truck has a 2 inch lift, so not all of that is from the back being loaded down. I was reaching for the sky though.

i had much much more than a yard

 

I fit 25 bags with no problem.. not sure how many bags would equal a yard of mulch though..

 

i think 27 is a yard. idk..i had 65 in mine lol

 

Making the short bed work harder than a long bed.

3cu. ft. bags: 9 = 1 yd
2cu. ft. bags: 13.5 = 1yd
1cu. ft. bags: 27 = 1yd

EDIT: before the taco I would put about 17 - 3cu. ft. bags in my little ranger with no problems.
