Hey guys! Just registered at the forum. I just bought a 1996 4x4 tacoma xtracab for $4500 today! 3.4L V6 with a 5 speed tranny. 155k miles on it, but its pretty nice :) i have some plans for it and ill post pics of it when i have my phone but i cant right now. Its completely stock but i plan on getting a 3" lift for the front and a 1.5" in the back with some 33" tires and a nice set of rims to go with it (havent decided on which ones). So far I'm loving it! I plan on taking it offroad this weekend with one of my friends to test it out ;) Oh yeah almost forgot, Im gonna cut out the cat and put a different muffler on it but does anyone have any suggestions for it? Thanks!

Congrats on getting a Tacoma. Don't cut out the cat, you don't gain anything except a check engine light

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
yes, leave the cats on!! do some serious thinking before going to 33" if you drive alot your gas mileage is going to drop badly

Check my build thread for a few vids on my exhaust.

Its a maganflow 14'' muffler. Ver nice sounding and aggressive and deep. The 18'' Magna is great too. They are getting to be pretty popular.

As started, keep the cat in. Our 3.4l motors are pretty picky about the exhaust end and you don't want to mess with it too much. No to mention you'd have to buy an O2 simulator.

Other then that, glad to see another 96 tacoma has joined the ranks!

I would stay away from the flowmaster mufflers.

They sound like a rice burner to me

@Cvd2312 Yeah.. too late for saying staying away from flowmasters :( my friend gave me a flowmaster super 10 single chamber muffler, and i dont like having a stock exhaust so i just threw it on there and left the cat on, but yeah it does sound kinda ricey but its better than stock.. haha!

@Blackdawg Whats the thing on the front of your truck called? Like what the lights are mounted on.. whats the name for that? I wanna get one for mine but I dont even know what its called.. Lol

    Lol you mean my bumper??

Mine is an Elite Offroad plate bumper. There are several other brands tho. Expect to pay anywhere from 600-1000 for one
