Hey guys, quick question... my dash, up in the center right where it meets the windshield, something is loose. Any time I hit a small bump/crack in the road it rattles horribly. Let alone offroading. I just lifted my truck and everyone thinks it's falling apart because of that stupid rattling. It's been there since i bought my truck, where do I start in terms of getting that big upper piece off so that i can iscolate the problem and fix it? I'm going over to a buddys in a bit and would love to have an idea before I get there, oherwise I'm gonna go at it like everything else and just start taking shit apart  any help is appreciated!

I'm looking for fix that's a little more asthetically pleasing and permanent. However if it comes down to it I'm gonna have to make a trip over to my printer ;D

I just shove one of my beanies between the window and dash in the winter. I have them in the truck anyway, and it fixes the rattling. I believe a lot of people have torn apart the dash to attempt to fix it, but it comes back a lot of the time. It's just what makes a first gen a first gen

I cut up an old car wash sponge and stuck a few pieces down and around the vent on the passenger side where on warm days it would sometimes rattle in that area. Seems to work.

hmmmm. didnt realize this was such a common problem. i wonder what the hell it is. so just shove some type of foam/beanie/sponge/whatever in between where the dash meets the vents and cll it good? i actually believe it, because if i push down on it, the rattling stops. dammn, if someone fabbed up omething that permanently stopped it, that looked good, and sold it for a reasonable price, theyd make bank!

    "THE RATTLE FIX MOD"
Step 1. spread hand out like your about to slap a hoe.
Step 2. Begin by raising and lowering you hand down in a rapid angry pissed off annoyed fashion. bring the pain upon your dash
If these steps do not work the first time try again...and again.......and again.

I've just accepted my dash rattle (I think its the "airbag" rattle). I 4wheel, so I just accept shit loosens up.

Along with accepting that I've accepted my seat squeak, clutch pedal squeak, center console chirp, etc...

It's what makes it a truck

The dash rattle is a well known problem...toyota tried to fix it i think awhile back but they were never successful with it

shoving something between the dash and windshield seems to be the most popular, functional fix out there

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue as well. I always thought it was in the air bag area. When I had mudders on my truck it really rattled, but I just put Nitto Terra Grapplers on and the rattle has stopped for the most part. Stll does it occassionly, so nice to know what to do. Like has been stated though, I do want the "fix" to look good or not be seen at all.
