Brakes squeal!!!

So I decided to take my taco to the shop so they can check my brakes, ever since I was coming the down the mountain and it would vibrate/rattle every time I applied the brakes. SO I take her in on MOnday The mechanic tells me that the rotors are warped and need to be machined, and I will need new brake pads. He shows me the warp sections of the rotor and shows me the worn down pads. So I agree and tell him to go ahead and do his thing. SO the following day, I notice that my brakes are squealing everytime I come to a stop. So I call him back and tell him that my brakes are sqealing, and he tells me something about a glaze on the pads or rotors and that the squeal will go away in a couple of days.. Is this true?

Should go away...if not just run some water through the pads and disks on the front...not sure about the back...but yea they just need to be worn in.

Then you can complain if they still squeal.

 

How long does it take to go away?

Usually the break in period for new pads and rotors is like 500 miles, at least that's what I've always been told. So I guess if they still squeal in about 500 miles you should bring it back.

 

so its almost been a week, and the brakes are still squealing. I guess I am going to take it in tomorrow. I was talking to a friend and he mentioned two things could of happened.
1.) they didn't put the anti-squeal putty on there
2.) They didn't machine the rotors


I just feel cheated cause I pay so much money for this work.

Damn, well as long as they warranty their work it should be an easy thing to get fixed.

So I went in today. He looks at the brake pads and rotors and tells me that everything is fine. So I ask him if he put any anti-squeal grease on the pads. And he says no, because they really don't work. Then he tells me that the pads just need to be worn in. Well, I ask if he can put some anti-squeal grease on, just to cover all the bases, and he went ahead and did it.
So I ask him again, well how long is the brake-in-period? he tells me, give it two more weeks, and if it still squeals, then you might need to change the pads to organic. So I ask him, so what kind of pads did you install, and he said ceramic. He said, ceramic are the ones that come with the truck originally. Is this true? Anyways, the truck is still squealing.

Oh yea, I forgot to ask the mechanic. Will my rotors and pads be affected in any way if I let the squealing go on for two more weeks or 500 miles?

shouldn't really be that much of an affect. but to be honest....ceramics shouldn't really be squealing at all. do this...........on an empty road......run up to about 55mph and get on the brakes good.........not skidding to a stop or anything, but to a firm stop....and do it about 4 or 5 times. it should clean the top layer off, cause it sounds like they may have crystalized a bit.

Okay, so I just came back from doing what tacomaman06 recommended. It seem like the brakes are not squealing anymore. I did it like 5 times like tacomaman06 said. I'll wait maybe an hour so the brakes can cool off, and then i'll take her out for a spin to see if they continue to squeal.
I'll keep you guys updated.

Huh...ceramic pads eh? I find that kinda hard to believe but whatever, ceramics keep cooler longer.

Sorry for the late update. I wanted to make sure that what tacomaman06 recommended really worked. So I took her out last night for a spin, and no squeals (Sweet!!). But just to make sure that it really work I was going to try it out in the cold morning. So I wake up early before work and drive around the streets for like 10-15 minutes stopping and going, and guess what, no squeals!!!

Tacoaman06 is right! Most high performance pads will recomned this after installation. The last set I installed recomended it be done in reverse also,(just only 15 or 20 mph)
