Yikes. Are wages higher up there? I notice that a lot of people from BC come to this neck of the woods to buy cars and a few other things.

Or is everything up there just more expensive period, without monetary compensation?

Not sure how the exchange rate and whatnot is.

IDK about wage comparisons , I'm a carpenter and guys in the States seem to be getting about the same pay as here .

The Canadian dollar is just above the value of the US dollar right now . They have been essentially at par for a couple years

Tuesday it was 3.69 regular, 3.82 mid-grade & 3.97 premium at the Kirtland AFB station. You get five cents off per gallon if you pay at the pump with the Military Star card.
I'm glad all my vehicles are four-bangers and all use regular.

been @ $4.13 for some time now. hope it goes lower ... but I'm thinking I better fuel up as much as I can before Summer hits (I am assuming the prices will jump back to either close to $5 or within the range of $5 or more).

Our lower gas prices are somewhat affected by the fact that the government subsidizes oil and gas producers. It's a separate pile of money affect. You pay for some of the gas costs at the pump, then some more when you file your taxes. I'm sure there are other reasons as to why ours is considerably cheaper than most countries, but that's one of the reasons.

That's not too far off, good call on the taxes being taken elsewhere.. onto a more progressive system so the "rich" pay more than their "fair share"

Globally, other than Japan and the UK, raw gasoline cost is within a few cents per litre. The difference is the taxes imposed at the pump by the various governments.
Example: California has a $0.36/gallon fuel tax. Federal is $0.18.
California sales tax adds another $0.10.

    That's $0.64/gallon for California.
Canadians are paying (on average) closer to $0.95/gallon.

That's on the consumer level. Different tax rates on the corporate level impact wholesale costs as well.

Paid 3.96/gal for ethanol-free 91 yesterday. I figured it up the other day and with my MPG increase, the per-mile difference between 89 and 91 equates to around $1.50/tank (250 mile equivalent). I'll pay it gladly.

Also, down from $4.06 two weeks ago!

Wait what? I get the total price difference between filling up with 91 vs 89 but what's the difference in mileage?
