I think we can stop blaming his size here guys. I am 6'2 300lbs and I find the Tacoma to be perfectly comfy. I wouldn't want it to make long trips in, but my shoulder width has nothing to do with my weight.

I had an '07 Ridgeline for 4 years, loved the truck. Great handling, comfortable ride, etc. I picked up a '12 Tacoma TRD about three weeks ago. IMO its a much better truck, more comfortable and capable that the Ridgeline. Its a "truck" not a high centered 4x4. Yeah, the Ridgeline has its good features...and I've been a Honda fan for the last 12 years. I have to say I really like the Tacoma better all around. I miss the trunk storage of the Ridgeline, but can live with that if the Tacoma holds up as well as my Honda's have.

i bought my Tacoma because i didn't want the size of a full truck, they're BIG and a pain to use for daily life when not using them for work. I also had a priority on a good capable 4x4 (hence my back n forth between taco and 4runner). The absolute best choice for what i needed was a compact to mid some truck that was easier on daily life in a big city with the usability of having a bed, plus a very capable (above average) 4x4 system.

name one truck that meets that criteria please........ and don't say Frontier, they are compact in every sense of the word... almost useless for a pick up trucks use

    I got my DC short box because ;
    I love Toyota reliability.
I tow an 18' boat, a 12' enclosed trailer, and a utility trailer.
I need room for my 13 y/o black Lab.
I do construction projects and don't need to crap up the inside of an SUV with materials and tools.
I sure as hell don't want to drive a full size truck when a Tacoma will handle all my needs.
Looks better than a Frontier, and is everything better than a Dakota (IMO).
Should have the FJ height adjustable seat and some heated mirrors.

Overrated compared to what tho? It's still the best small/midsize pickup available by far. IMO there isn't even a close second. Some get close in a single category but the Tacoma wins every category handly, minus pure HP. (V8 Canyon)

Total agreement here guys...and others as well. Rides rough he says ? Really ? It rides almost as well as alot of cars I've been in. I want a truck to haul stuff,go off road and still be able to go to dinner with friends. I'm 6'1" and 300 lbs..lots of room in the back with the driver's seat where I usually have it ( I was amazed that I had to move it forward a couple notches to be where everything felt good to me ). So yeah...take my big ass and put it in the back after putting the front seat all the way back...this guy is TRYING to make the truck sound bad. It took me all of 10 seconds to take one of the tiedowns off the bedside and go " oh..that's how it works ".
He says go look at full sized trucks. Sure..comparable fuel economy.More payload. You can't touch a used full size truck optioned out like my Taco is for what I paid. And go look at a new one.Hell...the ones that were on the lots I walked through were "reduced" for 3-15k more. If I wanted to pull a big boat or carry payload more often I might have considered it.

So yeah...if I wanted a stripped down model with power nothing new for what I would pay for a new Tacoma I'd look at a full sized. Or if I wanted to buy a truck whose resale is a little bit more than half after 4-5 years and 50k miles I'd go with the competition in the mid sized market.

If he thinks the Tacoma rides rough, then he needs to drive a Frontier. My Tacoma rides like a Cadillac compared to my Frontier.

I' was leaning heavily towards getting a reg cab 2wd auto (IMO manuals suck in the city) but azzhole Toyota decided not to offer bucket seats without getting 4wd in the reg cab for 09+ tacos so I find myself scouring the internet every day looking for a used 05-08 reg cab SR5 with buckets, finding a needle in a haystack is easier. I like the access cab but that is unnecessary weight that provides little space that just increases mpg and slows the 4 cyl down a tad.. I want at least 23-25 mpg avg and the only way I can achieve that is with the base model. Bench seats suck. For those of you who say get a prius, I need a truck to haul toys and lumber on occasion. Trailers just suck and are an eyesore in the driveway.

This guy was probably paid by gm or ford to make this video as propaganda to keep them away from the NUMBER ONE SELLING midsize truck. They are losing customers and need em back

Being someone who is truck shopping, I'm not sure what the hell he's talking about. Mid-siz is Ranger, Tacoma, Frontier and Canyon. I loved my twoRangers I had, but the biggest is the extended cab with jump seats...that you sit in sideways. Can't put kid seats on those, so no. Frontier is slightly more expensive, and ever since GM screwed me around with my Z24, you couldn't pay me to go back (and I was a die-hardbow tie guy, too). But the mileage is about the same.

Back seat room? I'm 5'8" 240lbs, plenty of shoulder room. My buddy who's around 6' and 300, plenty of leg room. My kids? No problems, and way better than my Mustang.

It drives me nuts when people complain about the ride. It's a truck! Complaining it drives too much like a truck is like complaining that the fish is too fishy! ("I know what you mean...my steak was a little steaky!") Most people who buy a mid-size don't buy it because they need a truck, but because they want a truck...so I want my truck to feel like a truck! That's like the guy who complained my RX-7 was too rough over the bumps, and the steering was too responsive...my sports car was too sporty. I drove my dad's GM, and my biggest complaint was a felt like a big car.

Outdated technology? Sounds like nit-picking to me. "You want how much for a car without a computer telling me my mileage?? You sir, are joking. That alone means the car should be $5000 less" Now , maybe it's because I'm trading in a 12 year old car, but it's fine to me. Sure, I'd like a few things (electric back window, for example...I have short arms), but I'm buying a truck, not a smartphone.

Buy a full-size truck? Again, generally a full-size is for people who need a truck, mid-size for thos who want a truck. And a comparable F-150 is about $5-$10k more. Dodge right now has some good deals, but a little over-kill getting the hemi for a pop up trailer and 25lb mountain bike. And mileage, for geddaboudit. That, and I insist on manual, because I enjoy driving manual. Can't get that in a full-size.

Dude sounds like a carguy reviewing a truck. Right when he complained about the ride, that was my first thought.

You obviously started this poll because you dislike the 2012 for some reason other than it's overrated? So what is it? :D

Same story different screen name. Still talking mad shit about the 2012. I thought you finally made up your mind on getting the 2012? What happened? :D

Ron Doron apparently doesn't know English all that well, fore-father means "generation before" but he uses it as the opposite saying the modern Tacoma came before the Hilux of the late 1960's. Not factual.

Seriously, Taco 2012 isn't great and you should expect more, it's just better than what the other manufacturers are offering. Unfortunately it's the only option for a new w/ warranty mid size manual trans 4x4 with V6.
If we got the right group of people and engineers together we could come up with something far better than what is currently offered (even maybe a turbo diesel manual box for the US and Canada) and allow buyers to outfit it as required for duty. Perhaps Toyota's profit margins would be lower, but they certainly wouldn't be spending as much on TSB's, field tech calls, recalls, reputation deterioration, and warranty claims like they are on the current models.

Toyota continues to ride on their reputation long worn out since the 1970's and 1980's when vehicles were simpler.

Sorry Tacoma disciples, but it's hard to find quality anywhere anymore. All Toyota has is something marginally better than the competition - and it's not even controlled by an American entity. Sucks for us the buyers.
