Im 23 never been in a wreck a good 7 year run, today my wife and our 4 yr old were slowing down about 10mph when an 18 yr old ginger kid and his jetta slammed into my ball hitch. Shoved my bumper and hitch down to the point its not usable. which sucks because in the summer i run a landscaping business and now have no way to tow my trailer. Do most people have pretty good luck with other peoples insurance his was state farm, about rentals/damages.

At least he had insurance. Most of the time when you're rear ended, it's pretty cut and dry the other person's fault. Hope it gets fixed quickly. Good luck.

I am assuming the receiver is bumper mounted by the picture. The way the bumpers are mounted can cause the mount to act like "a hinge" It might be a quick adjustment to get you back up and running so you can tow your trailer if you're in dire straits. Maybe after the claims adjuster puts his blessing on the damage you can try and square up the bumper. Sketchy move though, hate to see you lose a trailer on the highway.

I was just rearended a couple weeks ago by someone with State Farm, Tell them you want a rental car until your truck is fully fixed and safe to drive, specify you need a truck to tow with as you use yours to tow with. They should treat you well with getting it fixed, it sucks though...

I wonder if you would have had less damage without the drawbar in place. That's a pretty long lever arm and it focused all of the force of the impact.

Had it not been there and your bumper met his bumper more squarely, maybe your truck would have been better off (just needing a new bumper instead of frame work).

I know several people that have wrecked their trucks and when they got a rental they were told not to tow with the rental. I dont know what other places policies are but thats what I have heard from multiple people.

Up here I got a rental as temp. replacement for my Jetta (a Dodge Caliber  ) but I could have requested a Ram 1500 with a stock hitch, whether or not you are "allowed" to tow or not is something else entirely though...

Head over to Uhaul and see if you can rent one of the smallest trucks they got for towing. I would think that most of their vehicles are equipped to tow.

I always pull mine when not in use, just because of that concern.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
When my friend backed into my truck I got to deal with Progressive, I didn't get my truck fixed for two months due to playing phone tag and trying to negotiate with those morons, terrible company. Dad has had a run in with them before as well.
