This is nothing more than a GM advertising teams wet dream. I grew up on GM products. My parents still have GM products. i wont pay money for a GM product. GM products have spent more time in the shop than on the road.

My dad has a GMC Duramax crewcab. Great for hauling things, but the problem is with everything else on the truck. He has power extending side mirrors. The things never worked. The factory leather smells like a cow's butt crack in dire need of a good spray down. the knobs and buttons had all the paint rubbed off within two years of owning the truck.

so the Canyon has options the Tacoma has. I personally dont care about the Canyon. it is FUGLY in every way imaginable. I dont care about GM's cow ass leather either. Katzkin is the way for me anyways.

OME all around. SPC UCA. This and that.
After watching this video I have decided to take my Tacoma to the GMC dealership and trade it in for brand new Colorado. I don't care if i get 50 cents for the Tacoma.

No just kidding love my Tacoma Turned a die hard Jeep fan into a Tacoma fan last weekend. No big thing I just went up, through and over shit he thought we would NEVER make. Hell he thought we were going to flip the truck end over end one climb. I all could see was the sky. I love my taco. I think I will now go to the DownSouth Motor sports and order me some Total Chaos UCA. My truck has earned it.

Oh this is 5th Toyota I have owned. I love Toyota products. Had an 1978 Corolla. Beat the piss out of it and sold to friend that beat it mercillesly until a leaf broke. He drove it up and down the road in front of the junk yard red lineing the engine for 40 minutes before he gave up on blowing up the engine and sold it for scrap.

I would buy a Ford Raptor however but I like the mid size truck for what I do.

    It's even worse sometimes.

Four Wheeler mag did a "midsized truck shootout"
They stacked the Colorado, Tacoma, I don't recall the 3rd one....

And a cRAM with the Magnum V8.

So they tilted the photos to make it look like the cRAM was taking a hill at physically-impossible angles (but one look at spectators and trees told you that it was maybe a 5% climb)... the compared speed, engines, options, MPG.... and then they had a category "Subjective"

Well golly gee... the cRAM got JUST ENOUGH points under "Subjective" to nudge it 2 points ahead of the Taco.

That, and the bullshit they pulled in a number of product review articles (one was horrible... article body said the Spiderlights LEDS were invisible in the daytime, the caption under the photo said they were the best thing since sliced bread and would make a great addition to any truck)...

I dumped my subscription after 6 months. It's a shame... my dad subbed to that mag in the 70s and it used to be great.

The Canyon has some advantages. Yet, Tacoma outsells it. That says a lot.

If I really needed one of the things they offer that Tacoma doesn't, I'd consider a Canyon. My Father-in-law has one with the V8, it is a peppy truck, tows well, looks OK. Several of the things they offer are things that I and others frequently ask, baffled, why Toyota doesn't offer them on the Tacoma.

I wouldn't buy a canyon if my life depended on it. Looks like shit and all those fancy gimmicks are just that gimmicks. See what truck lasts longer and calls for the least amount of repairs. Tacoma will step on this truck any day of the week on road or off road

Agreed, but in looking at reality, a lot of those little things that GM has always made available have turned out to be maintenance headaches, or things that seem neat, but in actual use are less than ideal and end up being shut off.

Two-driver memory seat position, automatic folding mirrors, reverse "curb view" where the passenger mirror tilts down when shifted to reverse....

I ran "curb view" for a few weeks in my Silverado.
The thing is, I rarely parallel parked, and most times when I did, it was on a job site and I was pulling straight up and not having to back up.
The curb view was a liability for backing into a regular parking spot... or backing up in general in a parking lot or 90% of the other times we back up.

Automatic folding? Again, it ended up being a routine hassle so I shut it off and just hit the "fold" button if I was in a tight spot.

Automatic door locks? Again, a hassle. In some neighborhoods I like to have the doors locked when I'm driving. When I want to let someone out or in, it's a hassle to have to stop and put it in park. Likewise if I'm making a bunch of quick stops, it's a hassle to have to unlock the doors every time I want back in.

Seat memory? Mine worked okay, but a lot of my friends had issues with it not adjusting properly after a couple of years. The issue that I did have was "exit mode" would not always return to "drive mode" properly.
"Exit mode" would automatically move the driver's seat all the way back, lower the seat base, and tilt the seat base forward to provide max clearance under the wheel.

The only "wiz-bang" feature in my Silverado that I really liked and used regularly was the heated seats. I had the Duramax and that thing ran so cold that it would take 10-15 miles before I was getting ANY heat out of the heater, so without the heated seats, I pretty much had no heat for half my commute in the morning.
I had the Bose audio that had a separate tuner and headphone jacks for the back seat. The 6-disc CD changer jammed within 2 weeks (another common problem) so I yanked it and went to a Pioneer AVIC DVD/Nav unit.
The PAC adapters worked for the most part, but I lost the rear seat audio controls and headphone jacks, and while the steering wheel controls worked, they were not quite the same and some functions still needed the head unit controls where the OEM would not have.
The biggest PITA was OnStar. OnStar and the door chimes come through the radio. OnStar itself was still powered normally, but if the truck was off and once the door opened, the aftermarket radio was dark. OnStar had no audio output at that point.

The problem is that the PAC adapter would still send an "OnStar" command from the steering wheel to the OnStar unit. It never happened to me, but a friend ended up swarmed by the cops because his button apparently got tapped, he got back into the truck and started driving....
OnStar had made a 911 call, "unknown emergency possible carjacking" since they received the call but got no response when they couldn't talk to the driver.
I yanked my "INFO" fuse that afternoon.

this is retarded GM propaganda. comical at best.
anyone who was on the fence about either truck and see's this, and decides to buy a canyon, deserves to own a canyon.

You can see one here, along with the rest of the story about the 2012 compact pickup shootout: http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2012-midsize-shootout.html

I don't know how how reliable pickuptrucks dot com is, but there is at least some good info there.

I may never own another Government Motors vehicle.

And I have owned dozens of them over my 36+ years of driving. Most of them bought new, including trucks...vans...SUV's...cars...Corvettes.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
The thing that killed GM for me was the cost of servicing and waaay overpriced to fix. I went broke (really) several times owning GM. All they want to know is how much money you've got in your bank account.

I must say in all my years of owning GM, DON DAVIS on Niagara Falls Blvd in Buffalo was always excellent for service and fair on price (it's just too bad that's not where the vehicle would break down most of the time)

The ABS light came on; some dealer said it was 5 hours to diagnose plus about 2k to fix; of course I didn't have the money and didn't have them look at it because of just the 5 hrs diagnosis. Instead, in the early days of the internet, I went on-line and found out how to pull the code for the abs and found out it was a $50 LF wheel speed sensor. Shows how much anyone cared about my Family's safety.

The GM product is.....ok. The expensive service and uncaring attitude is what killed them for me...and they still don't get it and probably never will.

Oh and that Canyon? They can have it.

GM will never see me again; trust me.

The GM's aren't well built and they are super outdated, its like driving a 1980's S10, basically the same thing with updated engines. I mean, 4spd Auto, Torsion bar suspension, 15" wheels, Sprung under rear leafs, Very basic and cheap interior.

If they were cheaper id say sure go buy one, but they are more expensive than a Tacoma! The Ranger is a better truck than the GM's, basically uses the same outdated tech but its atleast put together well, and is thousands cheaper, $10,000 or so.

The GM OLM is actually one piece of technology that I wish Toyota had, as there is some real intelligence behind it rather than just coming on at 5000 miles.
If running synthetic, of course, the OLM is way conservative, but if running a quality conventional oil like Castrol GTX, the OLM is dead on and can be trusted whether it tells you to change the oil at 4k or 8k.

Haha what a terrible comparo. Who cares if the I5 has more hp its still slower and less capable. The Taco doesnt need a V8 since the V6 is comparable to that V8 in capabilities.

As far as the OLM, i could care less. My last vehicle was a GM product and had this. Its still a dummy light for people who dont know any better when to change their oil. Its still just guessing based on how you have been driving. Doesn't actually have the ability to test the actual properties of the oil. Under very similiar driving habits it wasnt always consistent.
