Well, remember how in my build I went to the commercial size belt vs. the URD belt, and adjusted my pulley to compensate, the commercial on only last 2 months, still slight slippage for power steering at far end of turning wheel. If I adjust a tiny bit bigger. should get me a few more months i'm thinking..

But I don't want to keep replacing a belt every 1/4 - 1/3 of a year. The commercial size is 6 ribbed belt versus the 7 ribbed. I lined it up perfect. Do you think the loss of a rib is cause THAT much of a slippage issue??

Read that twice...so what you have is one channel on the pulley is open, if I'm reading this correctly. Thinking about it, I think yes...that's giving you the play that's killing the belts off. I say this because one side of the belt is up against the side of the pulley, but the the other isn't. Visualizing it in my mind, that would allow the belt to move side to side ever so slightly on the pulley. Seems reasonable that that would wear the belt. I don't think it's actually slipping, more wearing the ribs from side to side movement on the pulley. Does that make sense? :notsure:

I recommend you drop Chris4x4 a PM on the subject. He's more mechanically knowledgeable than I. (read that he's who I'd ask if the question were mine).

Ahh, I hear ya, I'm getting full blown screeching on cold starts for a few seconds, thats causing some rubbing issues, I don't think its side to side though as the belt groves sit in place on groved pulleys, no where really for them to move side to side.

I'm kinda trial and error at this point, I've gotten a belt from lasting a few hours to lasting 2 months. soo, Improvement I guess

The side to side would be almost imperceptible with the naked eye. But the sides of the pulley are higher than the grooves, right? So one side of the belt is running against the side of the pulley, like a wall, while the other has a gap instead of running along the side of the pulley. In theory, that gap would allow for some very slight play. That's my interpretation...but I don't have a lot of experience with this type of stuff. So wisdom is inaccurate on this topic.

I should probably just set fire to the whole thing, claim insurance money, and be done with it.

    :D

Is your wisdom more geared towards a life of crime?
