Well.. I decided to go for the Optima at Costco..

However, it ended up being a Optima Red Top 75/35 series, I guess I didn't study up on this enough because this battery wouldn't fit in my truck. The cables wouldn't reach. I wasn't about to mess with trying to make it work, so I returned.

I started researching and found that consumer reports rated the Duralast Gold very high. I went with it. It dropped right in with no issues. The cost was only $89, so I guess I saved myself a little money. We will see how it lasts.

I usually start to see some corrosion on the battery terminals when they are about to go bad at about 5 yrs.

I have seen a lot of post about problems putting the Optima Red Top in a Tacoma. Is there a Optima Red Top part # that makes it a no brainier like if you just went to Sears and got their better battery ? Thanks.

I have an 06 with 75,000 and mine is just showing signs of giving out. For one..the little eye was black, meaning low or discharge, it was really low on water..so i added some..then just the cranking was slow...So I went with the Toyota Brand...True2 or something, which i understand is an interstate , just $78.00 at your TOYO dealer.

I still have the original 2006 battery in mine and it "kicks ass" when I hit the key.... I guess I should be looking for another one....from what you guys are saying: however, it looks like the southern (hot climates) seem to be harder on the batteries than the "Great White North".... Go figgure..... So then why do they measure the "cold cranking abilities" of the battery...???... Maybe they should measure the "hot cranking abilities" instead.... (down south, of course).... hehe

    Over....??

My dealership found that the battery on my 2010 had failed when they tested it at 15k miles. They replaced it under warranty.

A guy I work with has a optima yellow top. Been working for 10 years. I know the average battery last about 5 years like yours did. I wonder what the average life of a yellow top is:confused:

Yes it is that is why I hope some TW members with experience will chime in. Mine is 4 years old so I'm due within the the next year or less. I'd just as soon buy a battery before I get stuck and maybe have to pay for a jump.

Bought mine in January of 07 and it's still cranking fine. I have been thinking about replacing it (the truck, not the battery).
