Sub box help

I just got a sub box for my American bass dx 12's
Where can I get the ports for it? The holes are 4.5" wide
Do the speakers have to be mounted the other way?

U can actually used PVC piping from lowes or home depot and round off the edges with a router or u can use good ok muscle and sandpaper. Now that box looks like a dual box if it is that glass might crack soon cus those subs look beefer than the duals

 

Yea it's a dual box it's just temp til the summer when I get a new one

 

It just feels like it looses alot of the low bass

 

Like mentioned above you can use pvc pipe. But you need to know how long to make the pipe to have a decently tuned box. I would just throw that away honestly. Those boxes are junk. Pay someone to make one for you or make one yourself.

 

That is just your basic bandpass box it can sound good but usually they are build as a generic box and really the only way for them to truly sound good if for them to be built specifically for the sub. I have never built one and don't really care to but I've heard them built and tuned correctly and they do sound good when done so. PM ItalynStylion or Mr Marv and have them run the specs of the speaker for a port length for whatever frequency you want to have them tuned at.

 

Yea, it is a 4th order band pass that is tuned ridiculously high and will sound terrible and have no low end at all. Not to mention that the build quality of it is pretty bad and the cheapest materials are used. It's only use is for looks and personally I don't like how it looks. Sorry op, not meaning to bash your stuff but just trying to push you in the right direction. Those subs are pretty good subs and I feel bad for them in that enclosure. They would really shine in a properly built ported enclosure.

 

Don't worry about just put them in there because my other Box got damaged. Any idea how a ported box for these speakers should be. I have spare materials and really don't want to spend too much for a box

 

About $30 for materials assuming you have at least a saw of some kind, a little time on your hands, and little know how.

 

$30 might be a little on the low side, at least around here a sheet of mdf is about $40. For those subs I think they like about 2cubes each so a 4 cubic foot box after the displacement of the port, bracing, and subs tuned to the low 30's would be my preference.

You have room to fit a 4ft^3 box back there but you would loose a seat or two

 

A sheet of 6x4 around here is about $35 but I figure they will cut it down to what you need wouldn't they? Like at a lowes or Home Depot?

 

They do but unless you got a buddy that works there they charge you to make the cuts.

It would be tough and the box would probably be pretty tall but I'm thinking you could probably get away with building one to fit in the center with one sub firing up and the other firing forward. So if you were looking at it from the side it would almost look like a backwards L if that makes any sense.

 

Ok well then excuse that price. I build enclosures for friends and just pick up a full sheet for around 40 and can make a few boxes with them. I usually charge about 75 per box completed so I make overhead and then some with just one box and that's the subs alone.
