Stuck in the sand

Spent the weekend at Glamis sand dunes in Cali. On the way out my 2 friends, both veteran duners and usually the ones recovering trucks stuck in the sand decided to sink theirs

but managed to work his way out under his own power.

Then a borrowed Ford F350 with a big a$$ hauler, this was bad, doesn't look so bad in the pics, but the tires wouldn't even spin. As soon as he hit the sand it sunk and wouldn't move. As you can see we were about the last people to leave the camp area, so no help around.

Add an F150...not

So the sand is too soft to pull from the front, so we have to pull from the rear of the trailer.

Hooked up a chain underneath to the u-joint (I think?) then to a super strap to the Duramax then another to the F150 and start yanking . I couldn't get a pic of that since we were now in a 30mph wind storm, but it worked and they pulled him all the way till he was on solid ground. Took about an hour and a half .
Guess they were excited to get home and lost their minds, both know better . I think we might be putting some more recovery gear in the hauler for these rare occurrences . The guy in the Dodge, he just bought it and it was his 1st trip with it and the F350 was borrowed since that guy blew up the motor in his Duramax, so that could have had something to do with their mistake.

 

The rest of the trip was fantastic, my 1st time there and looking forward to going back again next season.

 

Well I guess it was a fun part too, being stuck that is.

That has to suck getting stuck in the sand like that! Great pictures. Those other trucks are are HUGE!!! Do they have high lifts on them?

Though I would LOVE to ride the dunes! We don't have anything like that around here and it's hard for me to even imagine. Especially the fact that it's free to ride and camp there.

Around here, we have rocks, trees and mud. I would really like to open it up across some dunes.

 

its a good thing im poor cuz i couldnt afford those trailers to lug around,so i dont have to worry about getting stuck

 

I don't know what those other trucks are, those guys came over to help. There are little cranes on the top of those trucks. The guys said they do heavy equipment rigging.

Well it isn't free, they have camping fees, but its like $40/week. But it is great.
We usually go to Dumont sand dunes in Cali and it is much smaller than Glamis.

Absolutely right, they stopped as soon as they knew they were stuck.
Experience helped that Dodge driver work his way out on his own, but excessive weight hindered the Ford from doing anything.
We rarely get stuck in Dumont where we spend a lot of time, but Glamis was unfamiliar territory for us.

That made for a loooong drive home, nothing like 40mph cross winds will towning 30-40ft trailers . We were waiting word on if the last stretch into town was being closed due to visability, but it calmed down after a few hours.

We had a good time though and are going to make it a yearly trip .
