TSB Leaf springs recommend to lift front?

Before I send my new truck into the shop to get the TSB leaf springs done. I was wondering is it recommended to left the front because the rear would be lifted? also would this kill your gas mileage?

 

Not necessary but it probably won't sit exactly even. Will not effect mileage.

 

If you are interested; I have not posted anything as I think that most people are pretty burned out on this TSB thing.

I have pictures of my '09 TRDOR AC that document the effect of the TSB and the Bilstein 5100 leveling shocks added to the front; I can also provide measurements from the ground to rhe underside fender lip and the same from the axel center (which makes more sense as this does not include any tire sidewall flex and tire pressure effects, but on this site most folkes seem to only care about how high they have to step up to get in the vehical instaed of actual data that means anything).

Bare in mind that I have a Leer topper and that all pictures were taken with a no less than 3/4 tank of gas and an empty bed.

I found that with the topper the approximately 1.5 inch lift from the new springs was mitigated to around 1 inch; to me this exaccerbated the factory rake to a point that it was actuallu noticabe; after the shocks installed at 0.85 inch lift the resulting differential ( the rake) was approximately 0.75 inch; barely noticable. After setteling the truck should work out to level (I hope)

Yes, many are burned out from discussing TSB issues. But, to others, the issue is new.

I had the TSB on my 09 and I definitely notice the difference. My headlights are proof of the additional rake because they are now pointed painfully low. Once I learn how to adjust them...I will.

I don't have measurements but do have pictures. Soon, I will order new Bilstein 5100's for all sides of my truck. I plan to set the front to 1.75". This should level the truck and may even eliminate the factory rake. I also plan to sell my stock TRD Bilsteins on ebay and recoup half the cost of the 5100's.

Later, I will add a leaf in the back and move the front to 2.5".

My sig is after TSB with no lift in front. It has settled about an inch lower now though.

No lift needed in the front.... the rear will settle. If you want faster results, slap about 200lbs in the bed for a week or more and it'll help settle the springs.

I talk to the dealership today and they have approved it, but they mention the 09's have different suspension than the previous models. It's suppose to be a huge improvement over the previous models. Is this true?


I know everyone in the truck world wants to lift their trucks. I'm not looking to do it. I just want to safely haul my race gear/trailer and 2 bikes around.

Everything I've read is a positive. Are there any cons?

 

I only received the TSB leaf springs in my truck as I'm told it already had the improved shocks. Older trucks getting the TSB are getting shocks and springs.

It doesn't raise it much and there are no down sides to getting it done. I only wanted it so I could haul my bike and gear around as well. I did not notice any stiffer of a ride. It did raise the back a bit but I believe it will settle back to near stock heights.

 

I believe the dealer is BS'ing you.
My '09 falls into the 5 digit part Vin# and I have the old leaf part #'s.
My '09 is at the dealer now.They're checking things out.I'm supposed to get a call this morning to see if they will do the TSB.

Called Andy Mohr Toyota in Plainfield, IN this morning, spoke with Mitch the Service Manager who was extremely helpful. Asked for the VIN, said he'd verify it with Toyota and then order the TSB leaf springs, may be in as soon as tomorrow. No hassle at all, just told him I was experiencing a harsh ride and bottoming out with a load in the bed and that I'd read there was a service bulletin out on this problem.

Mitch said he'd call me back within the hour and set up an appointment, very pleased with their service so far!

It's a Flowmaster #17432 (dual cat-back kit w/ 50 series muffler). It's a nice sound and not loud. Easy to install yourself.

 

Parts will be in tomorrow, excellent service! My Bilstein 5100's should also arrive tomorrow from downsouthmotorsports, thinking of having the dealership install them while they're replacing the springs, before I get my free alignment.

 

Installed my 5100's this afternoon, appointment for the spring TSB tomorrow morning. New shocks are great, much firmer and less bouncy, looking forward to getting the rear springs done to complete the suspension upgrade.
