    I tried once to cut holes for a pair of speakers in this shitty speaker box I made using a sawzall.......

    I've gutted 3 grills now, the best way I've found is by using my fein multi-tool. It lets you put the flat surface of the blade against the plastic and make a smooth cut without gouging the surface you want to protect. The blade simply cuts by vibrating, it cuts very quickly and cleanly. I think that dremel makes a similar tool now but I'm not sure what it's called.
