Fuel Type (Premium 91 - regular 87) of the tacoma, please help from experts???

I am a new member and hope to be active here in this wonderful forum

I want to ask about the type of fuel?? My car is

Toyota tacoma 4 cyl (2.7) (Carburetor)

I have a question important to me?

What type of fuel that is supposed to be used (unfortunately I lost the owner's manual) I use these days, 91 Premium (previously I was using regular 87 but my friend advised me to switch to 91 Premium I do not know why he says it's prolongs engine life is longer with 91???
And performance be better????

my brother took my car and he put the 87 fuel !!??( in side the trunk was a 91 !!!!! ) it's be come mixed !!!!

Is the fuel mix (87 and 91) harms the car??

I would run 87 octane in that truck from now on. You are not going to gain anything by running higher octane.

As for mixing octane levels of 87 octane and 91 octane, the fuel manufactures do this all the time and they call it 89 octane. So don't worry about mixing the octane levels.

Running 91 will do absolutely nothing for your truck in terms of performance or longevity/durability.

If anything, it might hurt your mpg.

Run 87 and you're golden

 

Mixing the two (91 and 87) just makes it 89! (if 50-50)

I had have 3 tacomas 2001-2010 models, and they were all V-6's... and used 87 both here and in Mexico... with no problem (All 3 were recommended 87 in their owner's manuals, too).

Higher octane gasoline is just one with a lower detonation, for higher compression engines that would 'ping' with excelleration, on Regular grade gas (87). This was back 'in the day' before electronic ignition and ecu controlled motors.

I believe the newer engines have automatic anti-ping (knock) systems... so you can use the lowerst octane recommended (87)... and putting higher priced gas has no affect accept on lowering the money in you wallet, faster.

But what is supposed to do (I mean there is in the fuel tank 91 Premium) What should I do? Do emptied the tank and then put 87 or Mix together??

 

As I said, if you mix a higher octane with a lower... you will just average the two... No worries... Your truck (or at least the new ones) will automatically adjust timing if it is about to ping (knock), so it won't... But that is only extreme high compression, extreme high temperatures and poor/ low octane quality gas.

You are fine... The truck will let you know if it isn't happy.

 

Don't worry about it. Go through the tank as you normally would (driving it).

All kinds of oddball shit outside of the US.
Encountered a guy with a '97 Suburban that still had the pre-'96 5.7 TBI engine. The engine and interior parts were a mix of '97 and earlier parts... and it was not a Frankenbuild, he was the original owner and brought the truck with him when he moved here from, IIRC, Panama.

 

Truck was designed for 87. use 87

You think someone afraid to mix 87 with 91 converted to a carburetor? Probably has no idea.

 

I am SOOOO confused! Toyota stopped making carbies back in the 80s. I also checked on wikipedia and the only 2.7L Toyota petrol motor made to that date was the 3RZ-FE, which as we all know, is injected. So I'm not sure how to go about this.

Maybe if OP clarified?
