How can an atheist recognize the day of Easter if they don't believe? And why would one wish the day happy for his fellow non believers?

I'd assume it's just another Sunday to an atheist.

It is just another Sunday, religion-wise.

But my family's traditions revolve around holidays like Easter and Christmas, because most of them are Christian or at least they are lukewarm Christians on Easter and Christmas. Good time to get the family together and have some fun, regardless of our individual religious beliefs. My cousin, a pastor, is usually invited to say grace over the meal, and that's about as religious as we get (well, until my uncles or dad or cousins have a couple glasses of wine and then suddenly they all know the answers to all things Eternal :D) Mostly my family assumes if you wanted a religious celebration you already went to church before our family meal.

So, it's about hanging out with family and building bonds with people I normally don't see very often. This Easter I am working, but I made it home for Christmas at least. And there's nothing wrong with wishing anyone a happy day, whether they celebrate that day or not. I tell people Merry Christmas and Happy Easter because I hope they are well, not because I share their religion. :)

actually... no, not if that religion happens to be the Christianity one. For Christians, Easter is more...much more, than just another Sunday.

however, it's great that we live in a country where all are free to believe or not believe in the religion of their choosing, or not.

and to the OP...like a feather floating in a soft twilight sea breeze, my friend. :D

Sorry Larry, let me restate what I meant: Easter is just another Sunday, religion wise, if you're an atheist. Meaning it has no special importance for an atheist. Kinda thought that would follow with the rest of my post considering your original statement was directed at atheists and didn't discuss another religion :notsure: but.. darned interwebz. Must be specific. :)

Actually, I worked on Easter so I get an extra 8 hours' pay. So it's not just another Sunday! :D

My tradition is to view Monty Python's Life of Brian every Easter.

He said "blessed are the cheese makers," Big Nose.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
