I have a nice little kit that dad pulled from the ODOT trash many years ago. Needs restocking, but pretty damn awesome. Steel waterproof(?) case and tons of crap inside, but probably less than that backpack

Well, I thought I'd try buying in Salem to avoid tax. First two stores didn't have anything, but the one I ended up at specialized in primarily Fender and Vox.

Spent a long time demoing all of them. A LONG time.
    Mustang II was my baseline.
I heard the Frontmans were kind of crap, so I just avoided it... though it sounded not bad.
The Champ had some FX button that seemed useless. After my old amp, I'm tired of useless buttons.
Vox just sounds bad to me.
They had a used Pro Jr which sounded really nice
I had total lust for the Blues Junior, but was about double what I wanted to pay.

I suggested that we see how much my trade-in amp is worth to decide what I could do. They say they've never seen one of these (no surprise), so they had to get the manager. They did a lot of talking while I went to play with the amps. I was thinking I'd get $25 on a good day (guitar center said it wasn't worth anything, lol). Guy comes back and says, "We can do $65"

There was no way I was going to get this opportunity again, so this was where I was buying.
I decided that the Mustang was too much like a computer - going to get outdated. Also, way too much to play with instead of focusing on playing.
Pro Junior came really close, but I had to do the Blues Jr. It sounded so awesome, and the price was kind of my second big deal:

    MSRP $730 :(
    Easter Sale $500
Floor Model $400 :) (who cares about floor model, still has the 5 year warranty)
    Minus Trade $334 :D

Hell I wasn't going to get that to happen again, so decided to 'make it happen' (one of the great powers and curses of single marital status ;)).

Went to see what Guitar Center wanted - $550 on sale :p

This thing just sounds so alive compared to that dead fish I had.

I have a first aid kit in my truck, it's not as extreme as that one but mine came from a HUMVEE first aid kit. One of my Sgt had extra and asked if I wanted one for me truck. I'll take a picture of it when I get home.

Same here... I have a standard USMC field trauma kit that I carry around. It's in a green steal box. They only had a 12 month self life so we would throw them in the trash... Not sure how band aids and wraps go bad?

Hell yeah Mike! That's a killer deal for a good, reliable amp. Now you can really dial in your sound! Just don't turn into a tone boner gear junkie :p

for my first aid kit, i have electrical tape. im an electrician for a living, and have found the tape to be the best band aid i have in my pocket. if i am bleeding enough, i'll put cardboard on the wound, and tape that on. i once fell from a ladder and broke my wrist, but thought it was just a bad sprain, so i put a piece of cardboard on the hold my hand in place and taped it on. it worked for me.

Next time we meet up I would like to go through that kit if you don't mind. Just to see what the USMC would carry

There isn't any controlled substances in it just iodine, Motrin etc, wraps, gel wraps (idk how to use them) lots of tools, saline solution, turnakit, every band aide you could ever imagine and lots of stuff to soak up blood. Oh body fluid kits, damns etc and a CPR mask. It's rather basic. The combat medic's carry all the good stuff. We just kept these on the job site for when someone had a derp moment and touched a hot wire

Everyone please don't take this personal AT ALL. This is my opinion and only my opinion. If I come off conceded or think that I know better or am better then everyone else, I do not mean that at all. But this is a pet peve of mine. So I will tell you guys what I said in the "Medic BS" thread as well.

Looking over the kit, for a field kit it looks awesome. Lots of tools in that tool box, as I say. For a trained professional, its everything I need and more. Here is where I don't like that kit.

    1. Do you know how to take an accurate blood pressure?
    2. Do you know how to properly size a c-collar? Do you know when you can get away without using one?
    3. Do you know how to do sutures? Because I don't, and will not attempt them at any time.
    4. Latex gloves. Who the fuck still uses latex gloves? People are highly allergic to latex and you could do more harm by using them.
    5. Hemostats. Really? This isn't the OR. And again I wont use them.
    6. Scalpel. Really? I only would use that in an emergecy cricothyromety (sp?)
    7. CPR Mask. Are you CPR certified? If you are you have been taught for the lay person to do hands off CPR.
8.. After Bite Wipes? What the fuck are those? Which bites do the work on? This could get people in trouble if used on the wrong bite.
    9. Airways. Do you know CPR? If these are inserted incorrectly they can do a lot of trauma to the pts airway
    10. BleedStop Bandages. What are those? We have them that we ONLY use on massive trauma bleeds. They are expensive and burn like a mother fucker to the patient.
    11. Burn Aid Packages. Do they say exactly what type of burns to be used on? The burn center doesn't like us to put anything on a burn except a blanket.
    12. Tourniquet. Again, do you know how to use this? When it's needed and when its not?

Again I don't mean to come off as a prick (because I know that comes across that way.). By no means am I seasoned paramedic. I've been a Paramedic for 8 months now, but have been working in EMS for over 5 years now. I've seen my fair share of shit out there and am very comfortable in my skills. But even I wouldn't use a lot of that stuff.

Okay, my rant is over. Please don't be mad at me.

at least you have the balls to say that most of the stuff in there is not worth having without the training to use it. Like i said before, electrical tape and cardboard. that is enough to keep me alive until a trained professional can properly kill me.

I was hoping someone like you would chime in! I figured an over the top kit wouldn't be a bad start. I realize a lot in that kit is overkill, and definitely not useful for someone like me who has very basic training. What kind of kit would you recommend?

lol why would I be mad at someone who knows what they are doing? I just hope you are around when things go bad. I've used some band aids and the bee sting kit out of my gear, woo go me.

Hey, about those CPR masks - I've heard that whole thing doesn't work, it's all about the chest pumping now. Just what I overheard from a class (that I wasn't in). What's your scoop on that? Or does the average joe just do nothing because there's more harm than good to be done?
