I don't know if I'm too late to get in on this GB, but I want to do a retrofit on my 2012. Any suggestions as to a good kit? I notice the FX-R stage III and the Mini H1 seem to be popular. Also what is a good temp for the bulbs, 4300K, 5000K, 6000K? Thanks in advance!

The FX-R IV kit with Denso ballasts and 4300K bulbs as similar to the stock Acura TL.

 

For the 2012 the FX-R, mini D2S and mini H1 will all work fine. The fx-r is going to give you the best output/quality but the main deterrent for most is that it is a very involved install to include cutting your light housing.

Both mini kits will install without trimming your light housing. The D2S will require cutting on some cars that the H1 will not but is good to go on your H4 sized light.

Many people debate whether the H1 or D2S are better. What I've gathered from the guys at TRS and their forum is that indeed the H1 is a bit brighter and most people automatically go for brighter when it comes to lights but the D2S has a more even output and is actually their preferred kit per their forum and phone calls to them. It is also meant for H4 lights like on our trucks and the shrouds meant to go with the D2S vs the H1 are bigger which to me looks better in our large headlights.

Disclaimer: this is all info I've gathered but could be wrong on any point someone please correct any discrepancy you see. I'd hate to lead anyone astray


Btw your fogs are H11 in the 2012, not H10 like the 05-11

 

4300k - brightest per lumen count - color like stock or sunlight
5000k - white (highest TRS recommends per phone calls, nothing official)
6000k - super white (IMO most people here are just going for some nifty after market look or a certain blue/purple color light band but perhaps I'm entirely wrong and they just like the white output. Which fatigues eyes faster. . .)

I got Denso ballasts and Philips 4300k bulbs and 4300k fogs as well

Fogs are offered in 3000k - yellow light - lose a few lumen but cuts through fog/rain/snow better

Thanks for the quick response and feedback. The fx-r stage IV is pricey and I'm not too sure on doing the retrofit myself, therefore I was leaning towards the mini h1s or d2s. When do orders need to be placed by?

 

The sooner the better. I'd call TRS and ask if they've set a deadline that they're going to close this and ship but it would seem we have enough for them to do so soon.
