Yup... The OEM Toyota filter is not identical to the one that ships from the factory, but it is still a most excellent filter and a very good value.

Personally, I have a case of Pure-One for both the Taco and the Rav4.
I used to use Mobil-1 filters, but moved to either Bosch or Pure-One when M1 jacked up their price by $3. It's a good filter, but not worth over TWICE the price of the Pure-One.

I buy wix after seeing good reviews years ago and that's what my local independent part store has.

But I think the reality is if you change your oil every 5K it doesn't matter what filter you use. I know of no one that actually had oil/filter related engine damage if they kept a reasonable oil change interval. If there are engine issues if is always a leak or something that lead to a low oil situation.

I should check out the oem 10 pack ebay deals though.

Champion Labs changed to the "E-Core" design about the same time Bosch bought Purolator and Bosch filters moved from the Champion production line to the Purolator production line.
The E-Core design is used in the Wal-Mart Supertech, STP, AC-Delco, and probably a few others (M1 and K&N remain Champion products but are still the older design and good filters if you can get past the bypass valve design).

I knew of a couple of guys on FullsizedChevy.com who had oil pressure loss because the filter media pulled through the plastic cage "core" and blocked the outlet.

E-Core is possibly worse than Fram. Fiber, rather than cardboard endplates, media glued to the plates, and a plastic "cage" core support.
Can potentially flow better than a steel core, but I'd trust it more if the openings were 1/4 the size they are.

He still has a shitload of spare time, but someone is going to have to donate the filters and film for his camera ;)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I've always been a believer in Fram, but have yet to start changing my own oil, got one free change left. Depends on what is more affordable to me, but I will still keep using Mobil 1 synthetic in my truck.

Whatever the stealer uses, beyond the Toyota service I have lifetime service and engine guaranteed for life. Not worth my time to do it myself.

OEM Filter and Mobil 1 oil... Kinda just always figured the Toyota Filter was the right one to use based on warrenty and compression... I've done this for all my vehicles over the years... I hate FRAM, never cared for them!
