Here's my situation, I have a 2008 double cab with a JBL 6 CD changer that has an after market hookup for an iPod and an iPod charger. I'm very happy with that set up. What I want is a backup camera. I don't really care if it is in the mirror or in an HU. From what I see the mirror option is pretty simple for a 2009 and on, but not as simple for my 2008. I could pull my JBL and put in an after market HU. If I did that I would want a Nav system that I could update. I don't really care about the other options that come with these things (DVD, Bluetooth, iPod, etc...). I have a portable Garmin, a Bluetooth earpiece and I don't picture myself making much use out of a DVD on the road.

Anybody have some advice on which direction I should go with this? My other concern is where to mount the camera. I think Toyota got it right when they put them in the tailgate handle, unfortunately they didn't start doing that until 2009. I want it to be inconspicuous.

that is exactly what I am looking at. How was the install? I have a 2012 that looks to be wired for the camera. Seems like the install would not be that difficult. Wondering about the mirror install specifically.

Here's a video form Gentex that shows the install for a 2009 and up. I wish my 2008 was this easy. I hope to be doing mine this weekend and I'll try to post info for those of us with a 2005-08 that want to do this.
