My girlfriend is getting a Frontier, makes my Tacoma look bad...

Nissan makes a decent truck. I owned a 99 Frontier and it was a good little truck. However, some small things broke such as the metal support in the driver's seat breaking through the foam and the fabric and poking me in the back and the light on the radio going out. I had those replaced under warranty and both broke again. When I looked at the 2012 Frontiers before I bought my Tacoma, it was obvious that Nissan cut corners on the interior. The foam on the seats was so thin that I could feel the metal supports when I pressed down. Also, the fabric on the seats was cheap feeling and the headliner felt like it was getting ready to fall down. After reading about the transmission cooler rupturing and ruining the transmissions on some models and Nissan's initial denial of the problem, getting a Tacoma was a no brainer decision for me.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that. As I recall, back in '86, when Toyota went to the IFS, they paid to use Nissan patents.

I read that the platform that is used for the Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, and Armada has a weak IFS for off road use. I need to read the article again and I will relay what I read.

Arguing over strongest IFS is like arguing about dryest water.

It was written by an editor of an off road magazine in response to a letter they received by an angry nissan fan.

And Texas does have the dryest water

Both are Japanese cars witch is better then ford or Chevy IMO dont hate if you dont agree, and both companies have a lot of really rare cars Nissan has the 240's and the datsuns and skylines and other models and toyota has the toyota pick up, supras and the 85 corolla and the toyota skarlet and other models. That IMO again if you know your cars and you saw any of these car or even came close to owning one of these cars would be like owning or even better then a luxury or an exotic car. And in this case i would rather get a 1st gen tacoma because there cheaper and you know it will survive anything you throw at it, if you think other wise then your doing something wrong. and even if you come to rolling it.......it still looks bad ass with battle wounds :D and it wouldn't hurt to damage it like a new car. And all that luxury crap is just extra weight for moab, mountain, dessert, tropical, canyon, arctic, all terrain trails and stunts ;) and i rest my case :)

It was several years ago that I test drove a couple double cab Frontiers and the one big difference I noticed right off the bat was the ride. Felt like the frontier was going to bounce you through the roof even in the parking lot.

I looked at a Frontier too and I wasn't happy for the same reasons as others have already suggested (aftermarket support, resale value, & feel) The real deal breakers for me were that the Frontier wasn't visually appealing & it didn't come in speedway blue. I honestly couldn't give a damn about a sunroof & leather; Tacomas are already bad ass without them.

I did like the Frontier I test drove, and had they offered a competitive price (they only MATCHED the Tacoma price, when Frontier had several thousand dollars more in rebates available) I might be driving one today.

One thing that did bother me about the Frontier is that, despite a stronger engine on paper, it was noticeably less peppy. Full throttle acceleration on an on ramp was lackluster compared to a similar Tacoma.

My 2011 Taco is nice but it wont be running long after the niss dies. Toy is now living off of us brand loyal customers. Niss is just as good a truck if not better. The only thing that made me buy a toy is niss did not have a reg cab 4x4 available. The long truck gets hung up in the carolina outback where I hunt and fish.

Idk about that, I keep hearing how Nissan has dropped in quality over the last several years. I've owned a couple of older Nissan Hardbodys, 95 and a 93 and were great trucks. I can't say anything bad from my experience but keep hearing about them dropping off of late.

Even if my Taco is from customer loyalty, at least it's holding it's value like no other.

Seen a Suzuki Equator up close today (I had considered buying one at one time) and it looks identical to a Frontier, wierd. I'm glad I got a Taco though, no regrets!

No money, all went to truck...
I had the opportunity to ride in a 2010 frontier the other day. Its a nice truck. I'm biased to my tacoma however.

One thing I did notice is that the tacoma is more refined than the frontier. The fine details of the truck just aren't as nice as the tacoma. The rubber moldings on the windows don't look like they fit well, interior looks junky.

As a former Nissan Fan boy....

I've had an 01 frontier, and 04 frontier and an 05 Xterra (new platform). The 01 was ok, the 04 was a good truck, but the 3.3l engine was a boat anchor. Crappy gas mileage, and crappy power. The Xterra with the 4.0 + 6spd was FAST. Really fast. but needed a clutch and flywheel after 60k miles. Dual Mass flywheels = really expensive and difficult to turn on a lathe. It was a good highway truck. Had tall gears for cruising at 80 and sipped gas, usually got around 24mpg on the highway (Base model S, no options). The interior did not hold up very well. The plastic was soft and scratch easily. Things started rattling, after 6 years and 125k miles I sold it to my mother in law and she thinks it's the best truck ever made - EVER. Of course she went from a crappy 2000 Saturn with no heat or A/C to the Xterra so of course she loved it. The Brakes held up well, but somehow I broke the u joint on the driveshaft. The catalytic converters all crapped out at around 80k miles. I never replaced them, no emissions in FL, but they are EXTREMELY expensive to replace. All the heatsheilds on the exhaust began rattling and falling off at around 60k miles. The plastic bumpers fade and look like shit after just 2-3 years. Around 30k miles it developed a hot-start issue where it takes 2-3 seconds to start the truck. It was apparently a known issue with the "IDM" module that was over 1000 dollars to replace so I said the hell with it and just dealt with it. 140k later it's still doing it, but otherwise starts fine. The fuel level sender died at 60k, and you have to drop the gas tank out to replace it. That's a pain in the ass to do.

My 4 cyl base 4x4 tacoma > All 3 Nissans I've ever owned, in re-sale value, interior build quality, exterior build quality and over all looks. It's also much easier to work on.

Also, the frontiers and Xterra's have very limited aftermarket support. The build quality of the upper control arms on my 04 were absolute shit compared to the Light Racing UCA's I got for the tacoma. And those nissan UCA's were considered the best product for resolving alignment problems after a lift. Getting 33's requires alot more work on a frontier then on a tacoma.

:crazy: REALLY?? What is this, 1950? Why should a girl NOT want to drive a truck? I'm only guessing here, but is your age "well over 60"?

That's some funny sh!t right there.

Since I just came from an '06 Frontier here is my perspective. The Nissan is a solid truck and I had not real issues with the truck. My only complaint is the steering is stiff and parking the thing was like driving a semi. I would of kept the Frontier but needed a 4 door considering I only had a King Cab.

Now that I have spent some time with the Tacoma, I would not trade it back for the Frontier for anything. Love the interior and the ride. It is much more comfortable and seems to fit me better. Interior doesn't feel cheap like my Frontier.

I almost bought a new 4 door Frontier and I am glad I got the Tacoma.

WOW! The Tacoma next to the Nissan makes it look even that much better!

I had a 2002 xterra, loved it. A 2006 pathfinder, loved it too! I came super close to getting a Frontier strictly based on price alone but just couldn't pull myself away from the Tacoma. I actually never physically looked at the Frontier up close. I couldn't be happier with my decision! I'm paying more but not much.

Again, the two trucks side by side don't even compare.

Didn't read the whole thread BUT as far as I'm concerned there is no mid side trucks that touch Tacoma. Ford did the right thing and retired the Ranger Chevy/GMC dont compare one bit AND Frontiers have to add all the luxuries to make it compare and the Ridgeline well well just leave it at that
