Hmm... I saw some guys who plastidipped their rear bumper, so I was planning on that. But this looks like a way better way to go. Especially the bedliner you used, I'm thinking I will just go with this. As long as I can buy the stuff at a descent price.

Ok so I went to mount my bumper tonight and noticed a couple scrapes down to the old chrome and was kinda bummed. Stuff seems to scratch off rather easy and I feel like I went the extra mile with prep: sanding and self etching primer.
2 things: I wonder if the primer was a mistake.
I also used Duplicolor products (O'Reilly) and the bedliner spray can looked a little different than what Tamer pics showed. Seems to have set up like textured paint rather than rubbery slightly elastic coating.

Just some food for thought for anyone considering this project. Does look sweet so far. I'll update periodically on durability but I can see this looking pretty ratty after awhile. Hopefully easy to touch up.

Ran into this thread and am thinking of doing the same thing to my chrome bumper. can anyone comment on how the finished product is holding up after a few months?

Before you guys go crazy refinishing the chrome, try using a steel wool scotchbrite pad with water on it first...I usually cleans chrome up REALLY well. People forget that the chrome itself is metal and will rust. I watched my motorcycle mechanic clean a rusty exhaust pipe on a '67 honda motorcycle that looked like the OP's bumper before and looked like new after. If I hadnt seen it I probably wouldnt believe it myself, but it works!

Update: mine has held up extremely well for being almost 6 months and no regrets and NO scratches. I hated that ugly chrome.
Here's a pic from camping trip this past wknd, but sorry no close ups.

2010 bumper started rusting after one year. Truck is white and intend to paint bumper the same.

Chrome cleaners and protectors just don't hold up.

To be completely honest, the only way to prep chrome is to remove it. Either media blast or a plating shop can dip it. If it isn't removed the paint job will look like total $#!& sooner or later. Usually sooner.
