Hey guys, I have been looking for a 96-2000 ext cab 4x4 for a little while now and since my budget is about 5k I am having to be very patient. I was looking this morning and ran across this diamond. Give me some feedback. The guy said he is pretty firm at 5k but I think I could wait and get him down to 4,500 or so. Any input would be graciously welcomed.

    Here is the add

It's a clean truck but I'll give you some advise based on experience-

If you want a 1st gen then save your money, take your time and get what you want. You won't be happy settling. I've been down this road so many times thinking I can "live with it" and I never could.

Thats a rip off for that truck DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!:eek::eek:

It has the worst motor toyota has ever produced and for that money you can get a 3.4 v6 tacoma with the exact stuff...

Look for a 95-00 and you will be surprised what $5k gets you.

if it had the 22re 4cyl it would be worth close to $4k.. but being that its the v6 i would not offer anything more than $3k.. and thats still pissing $3k away.

It's a 20 year old truck.. no matter how clean it seems.. it will have ghosts in the machine/.

In that range and for $5K? No a whole lot. I bought my '02 in Nov '11 with 74K miles and with taxes it came out to $14.6K. There are other threads about this, and the prices are VERY consistent. BTW had to travel to Colorado Springs to get mine, they are PRICIER here in Okieland!!!

I bought a 92 pickup with the 3.slow about 6 months ago. The 3L has a bad reputation but if they have been properly maintained they will last. Mine is pushing 220k miles and still runs great. That being said... When I bought it, I found receipts from the dealership and it had been in every 3 to 4 thousand miles.

Feel free to look at my build thread...it mentions a few things that I had to fix on the truck when I first bought it.

As far as price goes... These things are way overpriced. In Washington state craigslists ads, I have found them ranging from 4-6k. I was lucky enough to buy mine at blue book value.

I love my truck and of course will try to convince you about how great it is. However, if you really have been wanting first gen taco, wait until you find one of those. Don't just settle.

it is for sure the cleanest 92 ive ever seen! but i think 5k is a bit high i wouldnt go over $3800. in the end its up to you but dont worry there is always a good deal to find out there ;)

I think people over re act about the 3.0. Yeah it has its problems, yeah it is the worst motor toyota put in their trucks. But it is still decent if you take care of it. So the head gasket is likely to go at 150-200k...from what i've heard there isn't much else wrong with it. Rather have that then a rangers 4.0. And if you are mechanically inclined replacing the head gasket isn't that bad.

on a side note it is still too high priced...I would pay mid 3k range; however, I would probably be looking at something with a 22re instead.

I sold my '92 for $5,500 not very long ago. It was not as clean as that one, but it had the 22re

I agree. I was helping a friend find a truck and she really wanted this 92 3.0 5spd. She went and got it without telling me because "it was so nice". She ended up rebuilding the top end and tons of other stuff 1 month later. I told her to buy the one with 22re but now she listens to me.

    save and buy a tacoma
