front speakers

Im trying to upgrade my front speakers right now. Im planning on running off my pioneer 4400 for now and installing an amp for the speakers later. Which of these three would work best running off the HU:

I personally have the polk audio dxi 650 for my rears... I have a double cab. They dont sound bad. but seriously have no Bass at all... But they are really clear and nice sounding. I dont mind them. i paid around 70 new. so i got a deal.

 

I'm not going to be able to help you decide which speakers would be better, as I've never heard any of them. What I want to say though, is this. Currently, I'm running a 6x9 in my front door, and because they are co-axial, the sound seems as though it's all coming from way down and far away. I am planning on getting a componant set, like your last choice. Moving the tweeter up in the door, gets the sound more at chest level, giving a better soundstage and imaging. Something to think about.

 

i run the hertz components best sounding speakers ive ever heard in a vehicle,but a bit pricey.well worth it.look them up they are from germany.

Hertz audio gear is actually Italian but I do agree they are the best to be had right now and have been for quite a few years. I have a friend running fully active Hertz Mille up front, Energy Coax in the back, JL Audio 10W6 sub all on McIntosh amps absolutely amazing system.

 

you are correct dont know why i put german brain fart.but the best ive ever owned or heard for that matter.i think i payed around 350 when they first came out a couple years ago and are crystal clear.

 

X3 on the Hertz. I don't own them, but recently saw them at a local car audio shop. I looked at their 5 1/4'' ones and my god, amazing sound. I was blown away. I'll eventually pick some up but they are a bit out of my price range at the moment, lol.

 

I just put Infinity Reference components in mine, but I'm running an amp.
IMO, if you are planning to add an amp, I would wait until you do that. Speakers that will work well off your head unit may not be the best match for the amp you choose.

 

X2. If you're going to get an amp, pick speakers that will work well with the amp and live with the reduced sound levels until the amp gets installed.

 

If I go with hertz could I run them off my HU for now and uograde to an amp later? Wheres the best place to buy hertz? Thanks for all the help guys

You would be able to power them from the HU, but the pioneer 4400 is only going to put out around 22w rms of power, where those speakers run at 100w rms. So you could do it, but you'd be seriously underpowering them and they would not sound nearly as good as they could otherwise. But if you plan to add an amp in the future, that would be the way to go IMO.

 

dang they would be way underpowered. alright can someone post up an amp that will work well with this setup. I have a seperate amp for my sub so I will be powering just the speakers with this new amp. I might just do it all at once.

 

I have no experience wiring door speakers to amps, but I'd obviously get one that will have enough juice to power those things adequately. Even giving them 70w of power will improve your sound tremendously. I'm hoping someone else chimes in on this though.

I just did a quick search, but that seems like a decent amp for that purpose. It would put out 75w to 4 speakers wired at 4ohms. Like I said, I have no experience with doing this but in my 5 minutes of research it seems like that would be a decent starting point.

The hertz hi energy components run at about 60 rms each side would the 75w be ok or should I get one that will provide closer to 60w? I have an access cab so dont I only have two speakers? or do the tweeters count as speakers?

 

The hi energy series are amazing from what I heard in the shop I was in. They sounded awesome. The hi energy series 12'' subs were unbelievable as well.

As far as overpowering them, I am not sure. I personally don't think 15w would be an issue. It is my understanding that underpowering speakers may actually cause more damage to a speaker than overpowering one...I don't know if there is any truth to that though.

That seems like a great deal on those speakers if you can get them for around 100 bucks, I'd jump on it, assuming they fit your truck, and decide on an amp later.

 

I don't know how many speakers in an access cab, but the tweeters don't count. I have the Sound Ordnance 4075. 75w RMS X 4 channels. It is a lower dollar unit, but I think it is good "bang for the buck" Crutchfield carries their stuff and you get a wiring kit included if you buy an amp. I love them. Always great technical support and products.

 

Ha don't worry about it happens to me sometimes especially when I've been trolling around the A/V subforum for a little while.

Mine also I plan to go full active one day and unless something better comes out I'll run Hi Energy or Milles if I can get that kind of money together.

Under powering isn't an issue until you decide they aren't loud enough, turn the amp gains up, and send a clipping signal but Hi Energies are designed to be run with an amp and aren't really great off of HU power. What's the budget on the amp? Do you want to also run rear speakers or just the hertz up front?

Go for it that's a smoking deal for brand new as they usually run around $300 new.

I believe you also have some in the "c" pillar, the one which is holding in the back glass. Just unplug them and run the fronts unless you like sound coming from behind you also but something as high quality as Hertz Audio you'd have to find some good speakers to match.
