too soft rear suspension

How would be the better way to make the rear suspension of a 2008 Tacoma TRD hard?
I use this truck in Patagonia and roads are very bad, my problem is when I take 3 people plus me the rear suspension make a nock when hit the gum stopper at he chassis, any solution?
I already change the schocks for red Koni and still the same.

 

Add a leaf or TSB if possible?

 

I just added a set of Firestone air bags to my truck, they mount between the frame and the leaf spring. They are inflatable so you can adjust the pressure in them as needed.

 

I've been considering air bags in the rear for my occasion heavy loads. Most of my driving is paved roads but sometimes I load up with fire wood for my sister and really don't haul much else. Haven't decided yet but over summer I'll do something.

 

an add a leaf would help that quite a bit, but that will give you rear lift. can you still get the TSB?

 

x2 adding a leaf will make the back end stiffer.

 

Hey nvrquit1gc was that much of a job to install the airbags ?
I'm not a mechanic but can normally follow directions and figure shit out. Have most tools but can get what I don't have.

 

add a leaf or easier yet..a simple leaf spring helper from your local auto parts store for $25

 

The cost is about $290 through Auto Anything. If you have a good drill & a drill bit and your not scared to drill a couple holes in your frame, it will be well worth it if you want an adjustable system. I use my truck as a daily commuter, but there is times I need to haul something heavy. I did the job myself and I'm no mechanic and it took me about 3hrs. I took my time to run the air lines to the enclosed storage door in the back of the bed and I zip tied the lines neatly.

Since your truck is a 2008 model even with an extended warranty it would probably be next to impossible to get the harsh ride TSB approved for your vehicle. Cheapest correction is an AAL but this will only be a bandaid if you haul with some consistency. I would go for a whole leaf pack or airbags.

Thanks. Seriously leaning toward this. My Tacoma is my DD too so it needs to be flexible. Not sure about the drilling in frame and warranty issues. I'll have to check that out.

 

Ive been running Hellwigs one-piece helper springs for over a year now. It raised the back end slightly and stiffened it up considerably. They're adjustable too, but not as easy as the air bags. Also helps with cornering on paved surfaces.

 

I just finished putting a set of Firestone Ride-Rites on my 2011

No drilling necessary, in most cases. Firestone has a "no drill kit" for the later model Tacoma...kit # is 2407. It uses existing frame holes and the only holes you'll drill are two small and easy ones for the air nozzles.

The three hour installation time isn't always accurate. If you have access to a hydraulic lift and have a good set of air tools you might do it in three hours. Otherwise, plan on most of the day.

I've had airbags on two previous Tacomas but this was the first set I installed myself. One thing I would advise...when you cut off the rubber bump stop don't use a hacksaw. It will take forever. Get a sawzall instead.
