Its the e.13 SRS. Do you have any spacers on your bottom bracket where you can tune your chain line?

Widget is a cool idea and some good reviews on it.

Another option is to use a seat tube mounted chain guide or deflector...similar to what XC and CX riders use for single chain rings.

Hey guys need some help with a bike purchase... was riding a Cannondale Super V1000. Well cant find parts for it anymore, needs front and rear shocks. Dont need a full susp, a hardtail is plenty of bike for VA. Going to be using it as transportation as well.

All that said been looking at 29er's... cannondale SL 3, novara intrepid and a few others. Any guidance would be great, all i can really do is compare shocks and derailers.

OK, yeah, I was looking at the e.13 but wondered if it'd work with the e.13 bash guard I have on that bike. Some of the guides say they won't work with bash guards. Not sure if that bike has bb spacer or not...I have 13 bikes so I would have to check that bike. I do have a couple that do have a spacer on the bb. Saw the seat tube guides too but same issue, which one will work with bash guard and which one to go with if I have to get rid of the bash guard for any of them to work. At this point I may end up just sticking a throwdown front der on there with the adjustment screw pushed out where it will act like the deflector type guides to keep chain from coming off the inside and keep bash guard to keep chain from going off the outside. Widget looks cool but c'mon, 140.00? Would rather find a suitable bb guide & will use the throwdown fr der thing before upping any 100.00 for a chain guide.........

    Yeah.
IMHO, if you are looking for a hardtail, a 29er is the best choice (unless it's a dirt jumper you want). Cannondale makes great bikes, but I am not a big fan of their proprietary stuff. A buddy rides a 29er with a lefty, great bike but expensive. Novara is probably a good value if you get one with good components on sale. I would look for something with a RockShox Reba RL fork as a minimum spec, but if that is too pricey you could step down a little, maybe a Recon. The Trek Cobia is a good base spec at $1200 with a Recon.

    Yeah.
A 29er is the best choice in hardtails these days (except for dirt jumpers). The Trek Cobia is a good base spec to start with -- try to start at the RockShox Recon fork as the lowest and go up from there, it should be matched with other decent components. Not much magic in a HT frame, so yeah, just find one with the best fork and components withing your price range.

Any real diff between an 80mm travel and 100mm travel... i wont be doing any hard core trailing anytime soon.

And does anyone know how to compare the canondales rst shock to the rockshox lineup?

rockshox will most likely be better. looking at the novara intrepid, i cant tell if its air or coil. im assuming its coil though, if it is air then it is definitely better

comparing the novara and cdale, the novara looks like a better choice but it is also more expensive but i also agree to look at the trek cobia its a little cheaper than the novara and it will be lighter with the air fork and aluminum frame.

    check out:
    trek mamba
    specialized carve
    specialized rockerhopper comp 29

they are all in the same class with a few differences in forks and components but they are all similar

The Novara isn't a bad bike and given you buy it at REI, you're looking at almost 10% in dividends at the end of the year.

Plus 20% off until the 15th on one item, which would put the novara intrepid into the same price range and it has the recon gold shock. I dont like color at all tho:eek:

If your not wanting to dump a ton of money into a bike check craigslist.
I bought my specialized hardrock disk from Clist for $300 and it has served me well. All I did was put a new chain, rear deraillur, and cassette.

Yeah that Spec'd would be a great deal assuming its tight.
Stephen did you see this thread several pages back? I had discussed a Pricepoint.com in-house brand bike (Sette Reken) and my buddy has 3 or 4 rides on it and is stoked.
Great hydraulic brakes, good drivetrain/wheels, sorta crumby fork but overall unbeatable spec for $600.

You should go to wheelworld.com they have brand name bikes for really really good deals usually past years model that wasn't sold. Just an example

    specialized camber comp 2011 $1299
    camber elite $1499
    Kona Tanuki DL $1599

or alternatively if you want a 29er hardtail

kona and norco (equivalents of specialized and trek) with much much lower prices for comparable products

    Norco
    Nitro 9.3

    Kona
    Kahuna
    Honzo

    or check out JensonUSA

They have cheap component gruppo kits (Shimano XT and SLX) i believe

and you could combine it with an affordable hard tail frame, wheel set, and fork from:
    pricepoint, jensonusa, or wheel world
