DIY: Fog Lights on with High Beams (Brights) FREE!

[edit] The best way to describe this mod is that your fogs will come on with the lights the way the normally with (when your fog switch is left on) and when your brights are activated your fogs do NOT turn off. The fogs will NOT come on w/o your headlights and therefore you don't have to remember to turn them off like the other version of this mod that uses a jumper wire. So the difference is that mod will allow you to run your fog lights at ANY time but you also need to remember to turn it off when you don't want them on.

I did a search and couldn't find anything other than the 'Fogs on Anytime Mod' which isn't what I wanted. I wanted my fog lights to stay on when I turn my bright lights on because I have HIDs for the fogs and didn't want them turning on and off all the time. Be warned, with this mod you are hard-wiring the low-beam circuit to stay on all the time. This means when you turn on your brights you will also still have your low beams on as well as your fogs. The result: much more light when you need it (good) but it also means you will have somewhere around 180 watts on the circuit (bad). That being said, it should be able to handle it just fine but proceed at your own risk as neither I nor TW is responsible for your modifications to your truck. Now, let's proceed...

1) Locate your fuse box under your hood net to the battery (pic 1) and find the low beam relay (pic 2 & 3) which is clearly marked under the cover
2) Remove the relay carefully (I used plastic pry tools) as it's in there good
3) Connect the two tabs pictured somehow (soldering is ideal but you can use a small solid core wire so long as it doesn't make contact with any of the others)

That's it. Three simple steps. Pretty simple really. The hardest part is getting the relay out of the fuse box. The cover is somewhat fragile so gripping tools like pliers don't work real well and for most trucks you won't be able to just rock it back and forth while pulling up. You really need something to wedge under a bottom edge and pry upward and I recommend something non-conductive so you don't make contact with anything underneath. I used the leg off of a toasted capacitor because it was easiest to work with being rigid and made for soldering but you can use just about anything conductive you have laying around to keep the cost on this mod free. Just make sure that if you use a wire solid core is best or if you use braided wire you want to make sure you have no stray wires that can make contact with any of the other tabs or anything else.

With the Foglight Anytime Mod my fogs stay on when I click on my brights.

 

But you also have them on during the day when you're driving around if you leave the switch on. This mod makes it so they only come on with your headlights and stay on when your brights come on. This is a mod some people (like myself) would prefer rather than the dogs anytime mod. I don't to have to remember to turn the switch on and off during the day when I'm out driving around and then at night when I want the fogs on.

 

well the OP didnt want the "foglight anytime mod" because he didnt want to control the fogs seperately but wants the fog lights to stay on when he flipped his high beams on

Yea complete opposite reason everyone else does the foglight anytime mod lol. I wish mine would go off with my highs with the foglight anytime mod. Someone needs to do that.

 

I understand what the OP is envisioning. I read the previous thread. The OP states in the original post that they wanted the fog lights to stay on when the brights are activated. Foglight Anytime Mod accomplishes this. A better clarification of what the modifications in this thread will provide would be prudent before another member damages something.

 

i dont see it damaging anything...

if it does it with the other mod, it should handle doing it the way the OP wired it...

The following is a clarification for my own tiny peanut brain: trying to clarify cuz this is a major thing i hate when im out hunting and going over blind hills at night, having my fogs and lows, then want high and fogs but gay toyota didnt allow that.

so with the fog lights anytime mod- (meaning i dont have to have my low beams) i can turn them on and off at my will without any other light on
fog and high beam- with this you still need low, can turn on fogs, and when switched to high they will STAY on.

if im right, my main question is with the fog anytime, can i still not run my high beams? just can go from low, low and fog, and just fog?

if you dont get it ill try to re word cuz im throwing myself in circles now too

 

With the normal fog light mod they will stay on with the highs.

With this mod do u still have to turn the fogs on or do they automatically come on with the lows and stay on with the highs?

 

Still have to turn them on. I did it once, and haven't turned them off yet.

 

So it's the same thing then? Or in anytime do they not turn off when the car is off?

 

Stock:
Only turn on when headlights are on
Turn off when high beams are flipped

Foglight anytime:
Turn off with ignition
You control when you want them on/off
Stay on with high beams

What the op has done:
Turn on like stock
Stay on with high beams
