My hunt begins...my truck sold on ebay!

So my dodge was sold on ebay yesterday....a good thing. now the hunt starts for a taco i like. I think I may have to change it up. I originally wanted an 06-08 AC, with the 4.0L 6-Speed, TRD-OR package. And I found a few but they are right about 23-25K Depending on miliage. But I have found a few AC 4.0L 6 speed SR#2 package which is nice, but just no off road. For 2/3K less. I figure after the TSB for the leafs and new Shocks i will have that. Just missing the locker....but not sure if wanting a locker is worth an additional 3K....this is going to be tough man

 

Good luck on your search man, do you wheel enough to need a locker? I am pretty damn happy with my sr5.

 

I know I will get ripped for this but my LSD is soo tight that it almost acts like possie. I have never got stuck but I don't do extreme offroading.

 

Honestly I don't wheel much at all. I would probably 'never' use that locker. Some light beach stuff and some snow is about it. I just liked the OR package. I love that outlet in the back. But Like I said, If i go SR5 package. With the TSB i will get the new leaf packs and all new shocks. So is an extra 3 grand really worth having a locker i will probably never use.........plus i am having a baby, and money is tight so 3 grand is 3 grand

 

Yea I might end up bailing on the OR package. It's very cool, but not sure if it's worth it. My truck now has manual windows, locks, mirrors, and I don't mind it. But my wife told me my next truck i have to keep for 5 years. So I found a few great deals, on 07, base model V-6 with a speed with like 12K on the clock for 17500. But Since I will be driving it for at least 4/5 years. I think it might be nice to get all the options i want, because after this i am stuck with it!!!

 

For $25k you should be looking at a new taco.

 

If you can, be patient and get what you want. There are deals out there. I got an 06 TRD 4x4 Offroad dbl cab for 16500. Very well maintained.

 

get the off-road package. it doesnt matter how much or how hard you wheel, the locker will help in some situations

 

I've got the SR-5 package#2 with the TSB suspension done. Not quite a TRD but well worth saving 3 grand on.

 

I am looking, the longer the I wait the better anyway, because I can save a few bucks here and there. I want to go to a dealership to get it because i will need to finance a few thousand dollars, and I want the certified warrenty. I am in no real rush, just want to get it locked in.

Just noticed I dont think it has a hitch on it, whcih is a problem. And it's about 150 miles away.

 

Well for that price you can definitely get a new one. I got my 09 access cab SR5 #2 for $22500 OTD it was a steal! and the LSD is a really good system along with the VTRAC that come with it also. I do mostly trails and a few mud holes here and there but it has been more than enough to keep me from getting stuck. The beach is no problem also, even in the deeper stuff. Just keep the momentum going and you have no problem at all.

 

Sorry to split hairs but a "posi" is an LSD. Positraction or "posi" was a name used by Chevy for its LSD.

Toyota typically uses Torsen LSDs which use gears rather then clutch packs. These are more effective as well as having a more sensitive traction bias then most clutch types. Torsens usually are a 5:1 ratio meaning that they can send five time the torque to the wheel w/ traction. Clutch types are down around the 3:1 range. Torsen are more
expensive but do a better job.

An old "poor man's locker" for those w/ LSDs is to apply a little bit of brake when you are spinning one tire. This applies torque to the tire without traction allowing the LSD to transfer more torque to the tire that does have grip. Those who wheel LSDs often do this by just leaving the parking break on a couple of clicks. Not so much brake as to wear them out quickly, but just enough to keep one tire from spinning too easily.

For the TRD guys the full e-locker is at least a $1000 of the price of your truck. If you don't use your truck as a truck and spend considerable time offroad in low traction situations then that cost is just wasted. LSDs are far more useful to the average driver.

My '07 2.7L SR5 performed WELL beyond my expectations on the beach. I ran the tires at 30 psi, in 4WH the whole way and never got stuck. I slipped significantly once with my hind end started swinging to the passengers side but a till tweak of the steering corrected it!

For what your willing to pay for used you can get close to new.

Just picked up a NEW 09, DC, LB, 4x4, auto, TRD Sport for 25,500 before taxes.

 

You mentioned a baby in the near future... you might want to consider double cab. There's a thread on here that talks about baby seats in the back of the access cab. How often will the baby (baby seat) be in the truck? If it's on a real regular basis, consider double cab.

Other than that, find the truck you want and enjoy it.
