Anyone Know How to Remove Door Glass?

So I received my 3m window tint today and I "attempted" to put it on, starting with the driver side rear door...Failed miserably. So I was wondering how to remove the glass from the door? It would be so much easier to tint it without all the seals and stuff in the way. Before you ask, I don't want a shop here touching it because of half-ass work and their insane cost for labor.
So basically if anyone has a write up or something that shows how to get glass out of the doors I'd greatly appreciate it.

 

Save yourself time and headaches ... bite the bullet and take it to a shop ... in and out in under 30 minutes.

 

Option #1: do a search on craigslist for an installer.

Option #2: buy pre-cut tint for your specific truck. This is the route I'm taking.

I've been quoted $250 & up for two rear windows, back windshield, and a strip for the front windshield. Time: 2-3 hrs.

Thanks to the internet, I found a site for the tint I want for $54.95.

 

Back down a bit Yiko ... no need to "FYI" me ... it was just a suggestion. Taking out a window should be the last resort, it just may lead to more problems.

$250 for an AC seems a bit steep ... it may be a West Coast price ... I am sure that others will chime in.

Just take it to a shop. I'm a DIY'er through and through, however window tinting is something I let a shop take care of.

I've tried before and failed miserably. I feel like I have parkinson's disease when I'm trying to cut window tint.

Also, I have yet to see a professional tint shop who removes the glass to tint windows. The guy I took mine to did my front two windows in 30 minutes and that was after re-doing one window because his hand slipped and he cut the tint wrong.

 

That's some funny shit ... ... but my point exactly.

Unless you have the time and $$$ to do it again, some things are just better left up to the pros.

 

i have found that window tint is worth paying someone to do it right, over here in florida a "good job" is about 150 for a double cab, but i took it to a "good place" and their tool left multiple cut marks on my plastic trim, and there were some dirt specks and bubbles. if i were to do it again, i would take my glass out too, cause i've also done it on another car myself, and that's why i took it to a shop this last time

 

Thanks for all the replies. I forgot to mention that it is already pre-cut 3m tint. I have been calling around to different places and it seems they all want $130 or so just to put it in. After my "adventure" attempting an install yesterday, I am tempted, I just don't like the half ass work most places here do with everything

 

Awesome link! I appreciate it. I was searching all over the Internet for that. The fronts don't look very hard to do.

 

Pretty easy to get the glass out and so much easier to work with out of the truck. So I tinted the front 2 doors and the back glass sections, now i'm just waiting to pull the glass from the rear doors.

Ah, I had a feeling those rails had to come out

 

most places around here will guarantee their tint if it ever fades they will replace it.

 

So, thought I would give an update: I figured out that it is very easy to remove the windows (thanks to the help from you guys) so I went that route. I was able to get the windows into my house to have a very clean working environment. I did all of the windows and it came out awesome! Having the windows out to do the work nearly eliminated the risk of contamination because I didn't have to smash the tint into the seals. The only windows I had issues with were the back glass, because those pieces had to be done in the vehicle, but they still came out great.

If I were to do this again, I would take the windows out again for sure. No question asked. Trust me. It makes things 10000% easier and less stressful.

 

I'll mention that if you want good quality pre-cut tint with great customer service, go with Filmvantage (on Ebay or their website). They were super helpful and very prompt to address any issues at all, and they sent everything required to install the tint (specialty tools for free). The fit was 99.9% perfect and I ordered the 3M premium tint, which seems to be quality stuff.

Plus, since I did this myself, I know there wasn't any half ass work done by some shop who could care less if they mess up my truck. Try it for yourself, it's really not that hard as long as you keep things SUPER CLEAN and have patience.
