In my last big company job, I sometimes spent more time helping end users learn how to code for LSF than any of the real work I was supposed to be doing. Or helping them figure out why the tools they used (and were supposed to be expert at) were consuming terabytes of data.

And you never get brownie points for unf'ing some end users f'ups. But you do get yelled at when you won't just give them more disk space to 'make this problem go away' when doing that would just prolong the inevitable and cost tens of thousands of dollars.

I am glad I'm not on the hook for that shit anymore.

was going to get my CCDA as well, but got a new job and then the test changed versions. so now just CCNA and CCNA security. just taking this to start into the track, then break for PMP, then try and finish out the CCNP or go for the masters....dunno yet.

depends on if you are actually going to use the CCNA for a position/job or getting it to have. if it's just to have, then may as well wait.

We're hiring if you want to move to TX :)

And you can sit through this 4hr conference call on WI MAX connectivity to field operations through a 3rd party vendor. VSAT back up, Security, VPN connections.....then discuss MSA's & T&C for the services...fun stuff!

I have no clue what that is, but if you don't know about TFTP'ing an IOS to a router or switch... then I don't know if you've ever done anything with Cisco :p.

I've been on 22 hour conference calls. No joke, non-stop. But no thanks on TX.. I looooove Colorado way too much :D.

Hahaha, assuming you don't mind be horridly underpaid and overworked we are hiring... just lost our data architect . (Or will in a month).

Hrm, I guess I'll have to look up on it. I don't see why you wouldn't just get the CCNA, what did they remove - supernetting? I guess I should get my CCNA. Meh.

There's a line between where this is nice and where this is hell. In a previous job, I worked for 3 hours and spent the remaining 37 hours reading a book or surfing the web. You run out of web. I was bringing in a tidy sum, but I couldn't wait to get out of there for something to DO.

Its like that here, and at my last job as well. Some days/weeks the work keeps piling on. Then it stops dead for a month and there's nothing to do. You run out of websites really fast :D Last job there were multiple IT staff. We would play Quake 2 against each other on a small server we setup to kill time.
