Will Not start

I have 97 Tacoma Ext. Cab. One year ago it stalled(and it won't start)on me at a stop light. Towed it to the dealer here what the dealer said the problems,and I needs to replaced :

1/ Coil.Ignition
2/ Rotor Assy.Distributor
3/ Cap Assy.Distributor

It run great after all work were performed .All these cost me a whole month paycheck.

Just another (aweek ago to be exact) it happen again ,it won't start.It's turned but won't start. I thought it was the battery,cause I bought it like 7 years ago, so i took it to Autozone let them test it out, they said it's bad.

I went to Toyota dealer and bought a new one(TrueStart 84 month)When I installed the Parking light come on even though I didn't turn it on,and still won't start. I don't know what to do so towed it again to the dealer,and here what they done to it:

1/ Replaced ECM (Electrical Control Module)
2/ Igniter

After that it started up fine,But it just cost me to damn much. I think i've been ripped off big time. This time it like 3 months of my paychecks. So as a fellows Toyota owner Do y'all think I need to get a new ride? Now I'm broke as hell....

oh, if your ride don't come with the alarm,don't put one.It's mess up the ECM in along run....

 

I would start to think about it. When stuff started to go on my pathfinder I knew the end was near. May as well make monthly payments on something new with warranty than continuing to sink money into something that gives you problems.

 

I thought about that,But as you know my job may be gone tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

 

Besides the the ECU, everything else are just wear and tear items. The reason it cost so much is cause you took it to the stealership.

You already have all this money into it, you might as well keep it for a while now.

 

Yes, I did.I'm no longer need the alarm to protect this junk

I say keep it. Especially if you have job worries! Who knows, you might be trouble-free for another 11 years.

2009 - 1997 (model year) = ~11 years. Hey those are pretty good steps if they've been trouble-free!
You might try hunting down a good mechanic, those "older" rigs are fairly easy to work on & you definitely DON'T need to hand-out more $ to the stealership. Bet you save 15-30% on parts & labor. Ask your buddies who they use.

No, I haven't. I live down south. We hardly got much snow, If we did it don't stick around for long,the longest about two days. The frame is rust-free,the engine is clean,non of those grease,or dust. I kept it clean,and Armorall almost every week the last 12 years. Oil change every 3000 miles. I kept records of everything I added,even wax and washes. But it(the truck) did me wrong. Don't give me wrong I love the truck,But it just pissed me off when it broke down.

 

Thanks for the kind words,98tacoma27. I think the ECM messed up,because of the aftermarket alarm. My uncle got an old model Camary(90 something)happen the same thing,the ECM all wax out. Knowing what i knew now,I would have leave it alone, But like you said it's"one of those things"
