I wouldn't do it, but if you do decide to do it do not use open cell spray foam.

You can't even reach it can you?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Remember, your kayak was marked "demonstration only" (IIRC) and was supposed to have a plug in the back. If it were me, I'd put it in the back and seal the flange area up good with silicone RTV, the kind that can take long exposure to the sun.

And I wouldn't make the back a cooler. Filling one end of the yak with foam will upset the buoyancy.

I put drains in front and back on mine. I have a dry storage compartment in back. I mounted the plug (also bolted it place) and used a heavy duty clear silicone to seal around the plug's main body. Haven't had any issues yet and have sunk the yak a few times in the river (being a dumbass and flipping) I like having the plug up front too so I can get the excess water out that didn't come out from the cockpit opening.

As for the cooler... I wouldn't do it.

My biggest complaint about the Mad River Synergy is turning the boat. It doesnt exactly turn on a dime. I may just be spoiled with the way my other 2 boats handle. Other than that, I like it

Nice thanks! Im used to the crappy turning on my 11ft perception. It take 3-4 good paddles to do a 180

I really want a kayak but don't want to spend $500+ on it. Is that even feasible? All the ones I've seen are so expensive!

Kayaks wheel and deal just as much as cars. Keep your eyes on Craigslist, classifieds, and sales at places like Gandermountain. You can score some good deals. Take my advise though and avoid Pelican kayaks. They are cheap yes, but not a good investment when it comes to comfort, style and ease.

I've been watching craigslist too. Thanks for the other ideas.

much nicer then the POS Perceptions I have. I took a few laps in the one my buddy is storing at my house. tracks better, seat is MUCH nicer, smaller cockpit opening to keep the water out, way thicker stronger hull.

Definitely better. My 11' perception doesnt track for shit. I dont even bother taking it on the lakes and stuff because i spend 90% of the time correcting it. river isnt too bad but i also primarily drift. The seats in the W.S. are significantly better than perceptions p.o.s. "seat".... the hull on mine sucks ass too. I have 2 spots that are bowed in.... right under the seat... ive tried the black garbage bag trick and leaving it in the sun to pop it back and even put 60# sandbags in the bottom with the yak on sawhorses. Nothin is working.

    lol

I have the same tracking issues with my 9' and 12' perception...poop in lakes.

I also have 2 flat spots in my 9' but my 12' is A-OK as of now.
