Replacing new front diff seal. I know I am an idiot but how far does the seal
Go in the diff

 

I really want to help you, but your question is just too vague.

Are you talking about the front diff drain plug gasket? fill plug gasket? one of the axle seals?? You pulled and disassembled the whole thing and you're talking about the pinion bearing seal???

 

Sorry about the lack of info but thanks for replying. It is the seal where the cv axel goes into the front diff driverside.

 

OK. I didn't replace that seal when I pulled my differential.

But looking at the diagram here:

EDIT: "DIFFERENTIAL – DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR SHAFT OIL SEAL (for 4WD)" It appears to me that you tap it in until it's fully seated. Looks like it is not possible to drive it in "too far."

Does that make sense?

 

Sorry not really I think my problem to begin with was it was in too far so the seal did t completely wrap the axle. It would only leak when turning or pushing it in the diff and pulling back out

 

As from the factory? Or had you or someone else previously replaced it?

If so, any chance the seal was installed backwards?

Aside from this stuff, I got nothing. Maybe someone who's installed the seal itself will chime in.

 

I really appriciate the response. And yes last weekend we replaced needle bearing with a bushing from ECGS. As well as the cv axel. Drives so much smoother no vibes but the seal leaked so I got a new one today and did some measurements of cvaxel and diff housing and it seemed we put seal in to far. That if the cv axel work pull away from the diff with its usual play it would be out of the seal and that is the only time it would leak.
