My mom's '07 F250 with the 5.4 is a POS. All but 2 spark plugs broke off in the head when trying to change them. Apparently this is a well known problem by ford. The remedy? A 300 dollar special service tool to remove the broken plugs. Absolutely ridiculous. I used to like ford too, they really should have a TSB to replace the plugs free of charge with some better designed ones that won't break.

I love C-Channel frames. My Dad's 1966 truck has a C-Channel frame and it is still solid as a rock even though body panels rusted.

Glad to know 2nd Gen has C-Channel frame.

If I'm on the same page ... road grime can easily be cleaned from new Taco frame now?

    Right?

A month ago i went through the same decision as you, i was in the market for a new truck and had always wanted a Silverado. Having always owned Chevy trucks never a Toyota Truck so it would of been an easy transition for me to purchase the Silvy, but my current truck 05 Colorado had given me more issues then i thought it should have it made me question that decision. It was actually my wife who has always loved the Tacomas and mentioned we should go look at one. Needless to say i now own a 2012 Tacoma, i just love this truck and enjoy driving it. It was a little weird for me at first since i have always been a chevy guy i felt like i turned my back on a part of my life. But for better reliability, resale value and overall satisfaction the Tacoma was the better choice. Plus go look at any current gen Silverado around the door handles and look how wavy the sheet metal is, brand new truck looks dented up. That just kills me every-time i look at one, awesome job gm on stamping out those door skins.

Less than ZERO chance I'd buy a Silverado. Once upon a time they were a great truck, no longer the case.

If you do buy one, use the money you save (if any) to help cover a portion of the cost you'll pay in huge depreciation (guaranteed).

    :)

I know right. Those damn front springs causing rear driveshaft vibrations everywhere. It's an epidemic!

It's the only truck I know that can be affected so greatly by a mod so small. It's totally my front springs causing my "rear driveshaft issue". Good call bro

    No longer an issue.
That was a concern in 2005. The bed is well proven today with 7 years of service in the Tacoma and 5 years of service in the full sized Tundra.
It's a Tacoma, being compared to a Silverado.
That's like comparing a Corolla to an Impala.

Compare the Tacoma to the Colorado. The payload, towing capacity, and cabin comfort are simply a fact of life in a midsized truck.
This is where I really wish Toyota had not changed the Tundra, but rather kept it and introduced a larger version in a 3/4 or 1-ton model, but kept the 1/2-ton model the more midrange T-100 platform.
I LOVED my '03 Tundra. It was the perfect size for my needs.. could haul two dirtbikes in the bed, could tow 6500, and was faster than hell (though the front end got REALLY light by the time it got to the 105mph limiter).
    Draw?

I had a 2006 Silverado. It had 3 recalls the first 6 months I owned it.
My '03 Tundra was subject to ONE about 3 years after I bought it, and there was a 2nd one that impacted Tundras with a build date of about a month and earlier before mine rolled through.
    Chevy/GM = Rattle trap within 50,000 miles.

Toyota is not as good in this aspect as they once were though... In 1990, Toyota trim panels were secured solidly and plastic clips were few. This has gradually changed and now much of the interior can be taken apart with no tools, but it is still more solid than anything GM is putting out.

    I had forgotten about that.
My '06 Silverado did the same.
I'd fill up and for no reason the gauge would dump to "E".
It might start working again on that tank, might start on the next tank.

I got under there and worked the connectors, no change.
