They are! We have some of the best Huey Pilots in the world. No bullshit. Both of our pilots are Vietnam vets who have more stick time in Hueys than I have time on this earth! The one flying in this photo has been at it since 1968, and could park that beast in a gnat's ass!
In this particular shot, he's got her nosed in with the tips of the skids in the dirt, holding hover with 15-20 kt crosswind. Whenever someones says how sketchy a landing was, or comments on how difficult a spot we pulled into, he always says "Well its a hell of a lot easier when you're not getting shot at!"

I used to work under a few old nam pilots, those guys were unreal! They would drop us in under canopies that had a smaller hole than the size of their rotors.

I have a comparatively boring job as desk jockey and programmer. No vistas or heli rides here. Scenery is dark grey cubicle walls. Most excitement I get is when the office tower has a fire drill.

    .
It takes a very special helicopter pilot to get in that close ... at that angle too ... especially with the skids in the brush & bushes like that.
Get a skid hooked in his flight position and you are in very serious trouble ... to put it mildly.

As he said ... at least he was not dodging RPGs, triple A, or small arms fire ... :D

You have some excellent helicopter pilots there my friend ... please buy them a drink for me ... :D

ya the fireground can be super hazardous, burnt up stumps and staubs are the perfect height to catch a skid and cause dynamic rollover, plus the LZ's are almost always super dusty, full of FOD, and smoke. No question, our Sticks are top notch! Oh and we buy every round for them too!
