OK, not 60.........yet & can't ever find the 50s thread being posted in so I peeked in here to see what's up and wallah.......just picked up a numbers matching 1930 prewar hex receiver version of the mosin nagant. Have cleaned a lot of the cosmoline out of it but haven't actually done serious mineral spirit bath on it yet. Have had it apart several times and have added a few parts like recoil pad, slack spring & looking for period stock with the screwed in escucheons for the strap. Sprung for the Monte Carlo stock and strap and intended on swapping it all over into that but just don't care for it vs. the original setup. Also got a scope and laser barrel thing to sight it in with. Came with all the accessories - bayonet, cleaning tools, ammo bag, oiling can and the 440 round canned ham tin of ammo. It isn't the sniper version like the one above but it's definitety cool addition. Can't wait to get it all cleaned up and go shoot it. Probably not going to open up the faunky stuff in the can and just go buy some non corrosive stuff to run thru it. The original scope is cool score there. That is like a 300.00 thing to scoop up. I have hard time paying 1/3 more for just the scope than for the gun and all the stuff that came with it. Not sure if you've been there yet but 7.62x54r.net has tons of info on these guns. BTW, beautiful piece there, it appears to be in very good shape from what I've seen around and to have the matching bent bolt and scope makes that a very nice setup. Does it have the sniper markings on the barrel? Mine is just a Tula prewar non sniper version but from what I've found, 1930 seems to be the first production year for the M91/30s. It has the post war refurb stock but all the numbers are matching.

There are a few of us non-60+ folks hanging around here - we're tolerated pretty well. :)

My rifle is actually one of the reproduction snipers made by CAI. It was built off a 1937 Izhevsk -in Ukraine. The PU scope is a 2009 production repro made to the same specsand in the same factory as the originals. At $412 delivered, they are great shooters and about 1/2 the cost of an original.

I also have a 1929 Tuula Hex receiver and a 1945 M44. Lots of fun to shoot. Finding any non-corrossive ammo for these babies is tough - and expensive. In reality, these aren't hard to clean after firing the corrosive stuff - run water down the barrel (some people like to add Windex for some reason) to cut the alkeline, clean normally, oil and then clean again the next day. That keeps mine looking clean and breite and all I fire is corrosive ammo.

THX for posting the info. I may get around to doing this in the summer. If I had to bet on it I would say it will be a fall project.

evening all: OHHH! :deadhorse: thats how I feel right now. up at 3:45 to go fishing. walked in and out of "THE SPOT" up and down the banks, and navigated along the boulders, that are all along the river.
Nicole, my young friends girlfried, got her limit of trout first. this is the second time she got her limit out of there. GOOD FOR HER! then Jim got his limit, and I only had 2 :notsure:. darn, I taught them how to fish this place.
THEN, hit a honey hole, missed 2 and caught 3 more in one small area. DONE!, 3 limits and out of there.
jim had one around 25"', my biggest was 21" on the nose.
got home at 3:00, took a nap, woke up and started to get a cramp in my leg. rubbed some vinegar on the area, and it seemed to help.
just took a break, gotta clean fish!
I'M BEAT! this place is no picnic to fish, but been going there for about 48 yrs.

Hi All...hey Carl, when I go to the mountains and hike the falls at Ricketts Glen S.P., it gets harder every year and i was blaming it on the terrain changing, but alas my wiseass son told me it's just that I'm getting older:eek:...I know how you feel....Ben Gay is my buddy:p...But on the bright side, you did reel in a few...woulda been hell if you came home empty handed:mad:

Hi Sue:wave:...Glad you had a good time visiting your son and his family...time to plan for the next visit...Grandkids ROCK:thumbsup:

morning all: Ben Gay ? thought that's for old guys! wait a minute, think I'm there :D. maby should buy a gallon or two!
actually, this place beat me up when I was young. fortunately I can still "ENJOY" fishing there.
looking forward to just sitting in the boat and waiting for the shad to hit the lures. much easier!
the rivers are very low. don't look good for this summer. but that could change overnight.
seems like we're going from one extreme to the other. last yr.; record rainfall, this yr. almost none ????

Morning everyone!! I'm hoping we get a little sun to dry out the grass - have to finish cutting grass today, hopefully.

Tomorrow is Lynn's birthday so I baked her birthday cake this morning, just iced it. Now I'm headed out to do some yard work.

I usually go out for the first day of Trout here in PA. This year, I made a trip to Pittsburgh to help my daughter decide where to begin taking care of some maintenance issues on a house she is buying. She is going FHA and needs to take care of some minor maintenance issues before the deal is closed. Plenty of time for fish'in.
