I like the Taco and can make it work with a trailer.
Won't need to buy a trailer with a Silverado.

In other words I need a full size but I'm trying to make a mid-size work.

tell the truth. i would rather have a mid size and trailer than a big full size all the time. little easier to park (i know down town the garages are even hard with my truck) better MPG. we have a big trailer and i like it. i can park allot easier than my brother with a ’09 silverado and if i need to i can haul more than him if i hook the trailer up. 7’x12’ ratted at a little over 3000lbs.

now if he had a trailer he could out tow me but still. i get better MPG and can park easier.

So the debate should be between a Tacoma and a Tundra.

I traded an '08 silverado Z71 for my '12 Tacoma, no regrets. Although the silverado had a smoother ride, the Taco is just fine for me and I'm saving $60 a month in gas!

I got excited when I saw the new Ford Ranger.
    I like diesel Hilux.
New Ranger has diesel, MT, 800mm water crossing, new look plus tons of useless bells and whistles.
Apparently the new Ranger and Hilux will not be available in US.

    Why!?
    On another note:
I know the silverado, like the F150 comes in about 10 times more configurations than our trucks, but what are the price differences, comparing apples to apples as comparably as possible?
Say. like a dclb 4x4 to a comparable silverado, and a dclb 4x2 to a similar chevy?
I bet with typical incentives and rebates, they are similarly priced.

Hilux wont be hear for at least 3 to 5 years prob long if it ever come!! the diesel burns to dirty for the US. and plus if it did tacoma sells would drop a bit.

i heard ford will not bring the ranger over because it will really really hurt the F-150 sells. last i heard they don’t even make the ranger for the US anymore.

Why can one not compare a 1500 to the tacoma.

You cannot really compare a tundra to the 1500 the tundra is almost a 2500 spec range. Just like the current tacoma is like a older 1500 spec from a few years back.

It comes down to what size you need and if it will get the job done.

I have owned 5 GM 1500 vehicles from tahoes to pickups no problems with any of them drivetrain wise. Sold them since I like to change vehicles every few years.

Own a tacoma now and previously another toyota product.

Toyota has really slipped in quality control over the last 5-8 years. I personally feel there is not a huge difference in any manufacture currently at the same price points.

My tacoma has more ticky tack stupid problems and items breaking than needed and toyota has way too many TSB's out there for me to believe they care about quality. Their extended warranty sucks balls as well.

Tacoma cannot tow more than 4500 in my eyes without killing the truck and cannot take payload over 650lbs. I know it can go over 4500 but it is too hard on it. The springs are crap known problem for years and still is a problem if you want to use it as a work truck.

I picked the tacoma since it was the largest double cab that would fit in my garage. It fits my current needs and gets a decent mpg for what it is.

Based on current styling if I had to go fullsize I would go ford. New GM models are ugly to me the GMC looks best for them.

Also the rust problem for toyota and their frames is still there my 2nd gen is rusting horribly. It actually stains my driveway. Midwest truck so it sees salt. My other vehicles saw the same salt and no rust. Toyota uses a crap coatings. When I state rust it is the entire frame front to back. I bought it used, so I have my work cut out to undercoat it soon.

Reviews on here about the tacoma are very biased just as any forum you will visit for a specific vehicle.

Pick the truck if it meets your needs and is pleasing to look at for you. The tacoma does beat the domestics in resale value for sure though.

Hate away on me for being honest

I fully understand all the problems the tacoma has, not as much per say problems as typical design cost cutting that happens now a days. No need for me to search. All brands have these issues but some find it hard to speak up about the tacoma flaws when these comparison threads pop up.

I state hate away since that is what typically happens on here if you speak against the tacoma and praise any american truck.

Just trying to be honest since I have owned both.

I feel the tundra is a odd fit since it is soo big now. I feel it is on par with a 2500 just my opinion. Not stating it is a bad idea to be that large but it does stop some from buying it.

As I state buy based on needs and practicality.
